Mercury is totally not sad Nephrite is gone. Skuld is totally not here to cheer her up. With strawberry ice-cream.

Mercury didn't lie. That was something she was strict with herself about. It was a mild and delicious irony that there truly was something else she was planning to do right now.
She debated bringing something of her own for her and Skuld to share, but the goddess had promised ice-cream, even down to the flavor Mercury had mostly-jokingly insisted on. So when she looked through the freezer and refrigerator of her apartment, there was nothing that caught her eye. She left just afterward.
Skuld's was the building farthest from Mercury's, and the blue-haired girl passed the plaza, fountain, several shops, and the church along the way. It turned out to be a pleasant walk; the temperature was milder. She saw little of it, catching herself in a reflective mood. Nephrite gone wasn't a matter as simple as she'd tried to make it out to be, an understanding that this world was just dangerous for him anyway.
All of that had been true, but the other truth was that she would - did - miss the boy who had forgiven her, helped her when she was injured, treated her like someone important, tried to cheer her up, was silly and fun sometimes, had given her a place to escape to if she needed it.
The knock came on Skuld's door several minutes after they'd talked over the communicators.
