So there have been a number of news stories lately saying that older people, say above 50 or 55, are suffering from very high unemployment numbers because of their relatively high salaries and less technical know how.
But when I check on some data, like here:
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2009/11/06/business/economy/unemployment-lines.htmlhttp://manyeyes.alphaworks.ibm.com/manyeyes/visualizations/unemployment-rates-by-age-sex-and-ma It looks like it is only those under say 30 that are feeling the really high unemployment numbers. There are two reasons why these stories may conflict. One is that the stories about older people having higher unemployment numbers is just B.S. by news organizations who cater to that age group. The second reason would be that it is older people who are more likely to have been unemployed long term and thus would not be found in the data sources I used. What do people think and does anybody have some good data on this to back up their thoughts?
