I really hope I get high consideration for the Research Ecologist job I just applied for at NOAA here in Seattle. The duties listed for it dovetail almost perfectly with my experience from grad school (and this doesn't happen that often).
The incumbent will perform the following duties:
1. develop and debug software programs based on a programming language such C/C++, Fortran, Matlab, or JAVA
2. use statistical software packages such as R, S-Plus, SAS,
or Systat to conduct standard data analyses
3. conduct fieldwork to inform modeling
4. organize results for reports and presentations
5. organize and write articles for scientific journals
6. work cooperatively with a team of scientists
7. provide scientific input to resource managers
8. establish and maintain contact with researchers inside and outside of the National Marine Fisheries Service
I know I don't really want to do the modeling thing full time / forever, but it would still be a job in my field. One to which I actually have directly related experience. And it would give me an entree into some fieldwork so that I could move away from modeling and into the field. It's so perfect, and I WANT IT!
