Izzy lives

got a tow truck out to jump start Izzy yesterday. the driver confirmed that my alternator was indeed no longer charging. then i very carefully drove up to the Canadian Tire. my alternator and battery were under warranty elsewhere (i visit way too many different garages), but CT was the closest. there was no way i was going to take Izzy on the highway when i only had a minimum of electrical power. anyway, the guy at CT said they would be able to get Iz inside and looked at within twenty minutes, so i stuck around waited. they did get her inside pretty quickly, but it still took four hours to get her all fixed. luckily, i'd remembered to bring a book. read the whole thing too. i didn't sit in the CT waiting room the whole time, though. i walked through the mall over to Jack Astor's for dinner. yummy. i think i'm getting better at sitting in a restaurant alone, too. go me.

i had indeed only broken one of the wires to the alternator, so that fix wasn't too difficult. they had to replace my battery though. i once again managed to drain the battery to the point of no return. probably because i had to use my windshield wipers on the way to the garage. i seem to have a curse with batteries. this is the third battery i've replaced in the four and a half years i've had Izzy. of course, each of those replacements has been related to alternator trouble...with which i also seem to have a curse. or maybe it's just VWs. for one thing, the 1990 Golf has the alternator in a pretty stupid place. it's in front of the engine and down very low, right where all the road crap can kick up and break the wires...even when the car doesn't get driven into a snow bank.

anyway, i got my Izzy back. yay! i really hate being without my car. with all the waiting, though, i missed the department Christmas party. of course, as i said before, i'm not particularly upset about that. i only know a few people in the department any more, and the party has gotten really crowded as the department has gotten bigger. so i'm not really disappointed to have skipped being squashed into a huge crowd of strangers. wow, i'm anti-social.

went to the gym this morning like a good girl, even though i didn't really want to get up. i had a really good stretch though and felt awesome when i left that gym. it's a really nice day outside, too. barely below freezing and sunny. i want to go outside and do stuff, but there's not really anything to do. i don't want to go for a walk 'cuz the sidewalks are in an extreme state of yucky slushy. the bay isn't frozen enough to ski on yet, and i'm not quite so ambitious to take my skis to school to ski on the field...which i'm not sure is in good skiing shape anyway. so it looks like laziness wins over nice day. dude, i suck.

well, i'm gonna head off to the shower. i have an overdue movie to watch and return...and maybe i'll go out to the Addition Elle Entrepôt and finish shopping for my Christmas dressy outfit. i got a great black, pseudo-suede skirt...above ankle and a-line / trumpet shaped. now i want a spiffy top to go with it. not just a blouse but a top. maybe with some satin or sparkles or something. i wanna dress like grown up. : )
