it appears that my vacuum cleaner has just died. see? this is what happens when i try to clean. anyway, as i'm trying to clean before i have company for the next two weekends (i get to see desolatedrose and gretzilla!), i guess i need to go buy another vacuum. hmmm...do i buy another handheld like my old one, a "real" vacuum cleaner, or just get a Swiffer Carpetflick. i'm actually leaning towards the last. i only have area rugs here, but who knows what i'll have in my next apartment. and as i'm moving soon, i kinda don't want to go for a big vacuum. i'm trying to pare down and move the least amount of stuff i can (i'm not counting the books, though i'll probably do a weed-through on those too before i pack). well, i guess i better head out and buy something before the stores close at 5.
hour and a half later: after some deliberation, i got a somewhat cheesy, bagless upright. it was relatively cheap and will take care of the dust issue...which the Carpetflick would not. it operates okay...except with the most amzingly annoying high pitched whine. i'm so glad i only have the two area rugs. the rugs do, however, now look better than they have for years. not perfect, but better. yay.
