opera, laziness, and birthday (not mine)

the opera on Saturday was very nice. Lakmé is probably one of the prettiest operas i've heard, and the sets and costumes were pretty to match. and much love for the setting and costumes perfectly fitting for British occupied India. desolatedrose and i were hit with our usual post-opera munchies and restlessness...nicely cured with Wendy's (who else is open and near midnight?) and some Samurai Champloo. so the weekend went well.

on Monday, i trundled out to pick up my package from Purolator in St. Laurent. where i promptly got lost...as always. eesh. but that means i finally have my Robert Louis Stevenson books! yay! the plan was to go to the grocery store...with a small stop at Chapters for the latest Dresden Files book in paperback. bookstore took longer than it should have. i wanted three books, the website said all three were in stock, and i should have been able to be in and out in ten minutes. unfortunately, one of the books wasn't really, actually in stock (okay, the webpage said they only had one...easy to mistake that one). thus, i wasted time trying to find that one, having an employee check the back room, and then looking for a new third book so that i could use the coupon that i had (must spend at least $25). then i was reminded that i hadn't checked the bargain books for a while, and i just couldn't resist. good thing too. i found a book from one of the series i collect in hardcover (and only buy when i can find them cheap) for less than five bucks. score! unfortunately, that meant that i only had enough time to go home and change before it was time to go to the gym. did the gym thing. it's really a lot more fun now that desolatedrose comes too. after the gym, i ate leftover spaghetti (frozen three weeks ago) and watched Doctor Who and Heroes. i was going to go to bed really early (okay, really early for me these days) but got distracted prepping some books to sell. i really do feel a lot better about getting rid of books if i record them is some fashion. thus, i've started a second database of books that i don't own but have read (borrowed, sold, etc). this is one of those times when i wish i had the Bookography version of Readerware that Levenger used to sell instead of just the regular kind. but i guess the regular kind is better than nothing...and i have the reader's journal shade_scribbler gave me for the really special books. anyway, stayed up a little late getting those books recorded and snooping on line to remind me of some of the other books i've read but don't own. but i still went to bed earlier than i have been. go me!

finally managed to go shopping today (Tuesday)...both grocery shopping and birthday gift shopping. came home and baked pies for desolatedrose's birthday. one open face peach pie (best pie ever!) and an experiment using the open face peach recipe but with blackberries instead of peaches. i think i'll call it blackberries and cream pie. i'll probably try it with raspberries, blueberries, and whatnot eventually too. but anyway. desolatedrose came and picked me up and we headed off to the new Sushi Shop on Île Perrot where we picked up a sushi feast. we carried it back to my place and had a little carpet sushi picnic while we watched some Farscape (don't worry, dernhelm87, nothing new). watched House and whatnot and then had pie. yummy yummy pie. okay, i'm far too enamored with my baking, but it's my favorite pie in all the world.

so, it's been a couple of active days...except that i haven't gotten a lick of school work done. bad me. and i'm really not feeling the school work vibe right now. very bad me. i am, however, feeling the house work vibe. or maybe the librarian vibe. i want to clean in general but i really, really want to organize and shelve all my books and remove the book piles from the floor (they are a major contributor to the clutter in here). the problem being that i still don't have enough shelf space. of course, i still have a second storage box to fill; i just can't decide what to put in it. i put all the really major "i don't read this often, but i don't want to get rid of it" stuff in the first box: philosophy, religious texts, drama, classical literature, etc. the stuff that i don't sit down and read all that ofen, but want it to be nearby when i have the feeling...or need to look up a reference. i guess i could store the comic strip collections and children's books. i'm considering shoving my old text books into a box (though i do pull those for references too), but that would only free up the crates...which are practically storage anyway. gah! i need a library...pronto!

anyway, i apologize for the long entry. and i must not let myself get distracted by the bookshelves tonight. go to bed even earlier than last night. that would be good. yeah.
