...i'm....efficient?
so, i've done work the past two day, but in a kind of strange and fun way. i only came in to school for two hours yesterday, but i had a legitimate reason for that. it was cold enough yesterday that my car was in danger of freezing if i left her sister for any longer than that. so i did what absollutely had to be done here, transferred any required files to my jumpdrive, and boogied on out. since i was out and about already, i stopped by the evil wallie world for some much needed supplies...like TP and shampoo and a new workout shirt. then i headed to the gym. wow, it's really busy an hour before i usually go in. and everyone noticed my hair! even people who i've only nodded to before noticed and commented. it either must look really good or really bad. *l*
then i went home (where i can plug in the engine heater for my poor Izzy) and watched TV and ate mystery frozen food (which turned out to be beef stew). read a book. then i finally got around to doing some work. ran the data files i brought with me through Matlab. whew! Maia is one fast 'puter. she cranked those out in half the time i expected and didn't even have problems holding eight different plots in memory. while i love my Cora too, she's older and a laptop. she just doesn't have as much push. anyway, ran the graphs and went to edit them. boy, the fancy new version of Matlab i installed on Maia is kinda a pain in the butt. yes, technically, the plot editing functions are more powerful, but they're not nearly as convenient. *grumbles* so i messed with that for a couple of hours and thus went to bed rather late.
slept in. duh. it was warm enough (-3°C) that i could have come in to school, but i decided it would be more 'fun' to work at home today. so, i finished editing the plots from last night. it got easier as i went along, but it's still not as convenient. anyway, it was nice to sit there in my comfy pants and work, but i wanted to show RK the plots and knitting is on campus tonight anyway, so i got dressed in real clothing and came to school. where i discovered that the figures saved from the version of Matlab i have on Maia are not backwards compatible to the version of Matlab i have on Cora. should have thought of that. oops. so, i bebopped down the hall to tell RK no plots today. he said i might as well just load the newer version of Matlab on Cora. duh, should have thought of that too. so i uninstalled the old and installed the new and printed out all my pretty plots. go me.
the 'test' run of a system randomly created from a pool of species is happily running. okay, maybe not happily. it's about 30% of the way through and i've already lost four out of twelve species. but, whatever. it's running, and that's the important part. if all goes well, this 'test' run will become the first of my real data runs for my thesis! whee! now that's exciting. *l*
anyway, so that's my fun version of work for the past couple of days. two hours at school for either day. i must say, though, leaving home and driving to 'work' at the same time everyone else was leaving work and driving home was kinda weird. and the traffic sucked. didn't slow me down or anything, but there were a lot more cars...and thus more stupid drivers. oh well. such is life. it's not like i have to drive in that crap every day...yet. and i got a really good parking spot. : )
