god, what a ridiculous last few days. we'll start with brian's boss is an ass hole who informed him yesterday that he wasn't going to pay him for the last two weeks of work that he's done, because brian's leaving early, and not fulfilling his contract (incidentally, the excuse brian gave is that his mom asked him to come home because his dad's ill, which is kind of true in that he has unmanaged diabetes). so brian got pissed and said he had company documents on his laptop that he wouldn't hesitate to share with other event planning companies in jaipur. at which point everybody got up in arms, but they said they'd pay (although much less than they were supposed to). but then brian's friend ishaan called. ishaan used to work at the same company, and is good friends with one of the guys who still works there. it was odd that he called on that day, and he was talking strangely, and asking if we still lived in the same place, and where would we be tomorrow. so we got spooked and thought they were going to come with the police and try to take the laptop away. in india, the police are so corrupt that the whole situation could have just exploded, and we got scared, so we spent all night packing our stuff in preparation for going to delhi to the u.s. embassy. luckily jo called, pointing out the embassy would do nothing but try to get us out of the country, thereby preventing our travel over the next two weeks (the whole reason my ass is still in india in the first place). so we talked to my boss, who called somebody with aiesec, and we think it's all ironed out. we're still not sure if brian is getting paid, but the president of the aiesec chapter here assured us the police could do nothing but threaten us.
so tomorrow we leave for the himalayas, and we'll spend almost a week there before going to amritsar to see the golden temple, and then on to jaisalmer for a camel safari, jodhpur for shopping, maybe another stop in pushkar, and back to jaipur to pick up our bags before heading to agra to see the taj mahal, and to delhi, where we fly home. i'm very excited, especially for the himalayas. it's going to be so nice and relaxing (after the 24 hour train trip of course). and i've now got less than three weeks before i go home. it's been a long trip. ten weeks in india is a long ass time. i don't think i'll ever need to spend ten weeks here ever again. of course, i may still end up living here, but india is so nice when you have money, that i don't think i'll mind. for now, i'm happy to be headed home :)
