[Log] I'll be there for you

Oct 03, 2011 01:42

Date: October 2nd
Who: Kisarazu Ryou and Kurobane Harukaze
Rating: PG for some language
What: Bane's leaving to take care of stuff and Ryou decides he wants to go too. This is the log in which it happens.

It felt like Bane hardly had any energy in his body as he simply went through the motions of packing his suitcase. He tossed clothes in without a care as to if anything matched, how many of what was there, and if he had underwear. He didn’t even have a black suit to pack. The only things in his wardrobe were casual clothes, except the uniform all Eclipse students were meant to wear, and without thinking he packed that too. If he had more time, he could have gotten something. Bane shouldn’t have had to do it in the first place.

An audible snap rang in his room as he closed the lid of his case and packed his essentials. Things like his phone charger and toiletries. When he was finished he made a quick sweep of the room to make sure he’d turned his laptop off properly and unplugged it after Ryou started getting annoying with his questions. He didn’t want to answer them. At all. Especially not at the moment when he was still trying to come to grips with his family’s passing.

Before he knew it, he was locking his room and making his way out of the dorm. His destination was the train station in town, where he would hop on and get off in his hometown.

Ryou was worried.

That alone was a concern. Because Ryou never worried about anything, except his own ass, and his brother. But here he was, unable to help himself from worrying over his friend. To the point that he’d packed the same essentials he took on hunting trips in a bag - a change of clothes, his crossbow and bolts, his hairbrush and phone - said goodbye to his brother and taken up post at the gates of the dawn dorm. Bane had said he was leaving soon and Ryou intended to catch him.

The moment he saw Bane exiting the dorm, Ryou made his presence known. His bag was slung over one shoulder and although he said nothing, his expression was determined.

Bane wasn’t particularly numb, but he was only really concentrating on his own footsteps and the area ahead of himself. He wouldn’t have known anyone was around unless they did do exactly as Ryou had. And looking up, he stare at his friend.

After a moment, it really dawned on him and a small fluttering of annoyance bubbled to the surface. Enough that he sounded somewhat exasperated as he spoke. “Go back inside.”

“No.” Ryou had never taken well to being told what to do. Listening to authority had never been a strong point and it wasn’t something that was going to change any time soon. He took a step closer to the other hunter. “I’m coming with you.”

He didn’t know what was going on, but it was showing him a side of Bane that he’d never even considered existing. And he didn’t like it. Bane was supposed to be the person that Ryou knew would always do as he was told in the end.

That annoyance that hummed under his skin heated up just a little more. Enough that his fist clenched around the case at his side until his knuckles were white and strained. However, he stayed silent for a moment and looked passed his friend toward the direction town was in.

“Why?” He asked, teeth semi-clenched. His anger was misdirected, though. Aimed at Ryou for being in his hair when he had this one thing to do, when it should be pointed at how something so stupid could have done what it did. “Can’t you see I want to be alone?”

Ryou stepped closer again until he was right in front of Bane, looking up at him. He kept his expression as steady as possible, despite the worry trying to show through. He glanced down at the suitcase in his friend’s hand then back up at him.

“Then tell me why you’re going so suddenly.”

This... this was not helping at all. A confrontation was the last thing he needed, and he didn’t know how to say why he was leaving without feeling like his heart was being ripped out of his chest to even think the words, let alone say them. It was hard enough writing that vague post as it was, and now that this was the product he wished that he never have written it.

“...I told you I didn’t want to talk about it. Can you just drop the damn subject?” Bane all but growled as he stare down at the other hunter.

“Then I’m coming with you.” Because one way or another, Ryou was going to find out. If there was one thing he was worse at than being told what to do, it was being left in the dark. He liked to always know what was going on and why, which was half the reason he specialized in the areas of his job that he did. Intel was his favourite part of being a hunter, and if it weren’t for the opinions and worry his parents had caused, he would’ve loved to have work in the records department.

Bane knew that Ryou wasn’t to blame for things and he shouldn’t be taking it out on him, but it didn’t make it any easier to keep all the anguish he was feeling from turning into anger. Enough so that he actually pulled back and punched the solid mass behind his friend.

“It’s none of your damn business!”

When Bane pulled back, Ryou had been about to move closer to him. He was glad he didn’t get a chance to move though, his eyes widening at the punch flying past his head. He didn’t doubt that that had been exactly where Bane had been aiming, because he was simply far too close to miss such an easy shot. Slowly, he lifted his hand and closed his fingers over the fist by his head.

“Bane,” He said quietly, his other hand slowly reaching up towards the hunter’s cheek. “I make everything my business.”

He didn’t know why, but that simple touch calmed him enough to be rational. Ryou’s needing to know still bothered Bane, but not to the violent extent it had only moments before. Closing his eyes, the taller hunter dropped the suitcase he clung to and instead wrapped his arm around his friend and drew him closer.

“We’re staying at my Aunt’s then.” Bane mumbled softly. “Just don’t ask anything yet, okay? I really can’t say it right now.”

Ryou’s hand diverted from Bane’s cheek to wrap around his friend’s neck instead, the other arm joining it a moment later. Normally, he wouldn’t be caught doing anything that could be considered even remotely intimate on any scale with anyone but his brother, but he didn’t care if anyone saw him right now. Because even he wasn’t so heartless as to be completely closed off when someone important to him needed him.

“As long as you tell me eventually,” he conceded, tip-toeing so he could rest his head against Bane’s. “Promise?”

“Heh.” He sounded bitterly as he let himself somewhat relax. Bane hadn’t realized that he needed comforting, but now that he got it he was actually glad that Ryou came out to tag along. Not that he particularly wanted his friend to see or know, but even he wasn’t dumb enough to ignore the fact that right at that moment he needed Ryou. He needed him to keep from feeling like his chest was both hollow and heavy at the same time.

“By the time we get there, I probably won’t even need to do that.” Bane finally replied, tightening his grip for a moment.

As much as Ryou didn’t like the sound of that, he simply tightened his own grip in response and leaned into Bane. After a long moment, he slowly dropped his arms, his hands sliding down Bane’s arms to his hands.

“Ready to go?” he asked, his expression as clean and empty as ever. “Faster we get out of here, the less time people have to ask questions.”

“Not really,” Bane muttered. “But there’s no other choice.”

He knew he should man up and act his age rather than drag his heels, but there was just something he didn’t want to accept about the whole situation. His family weren’t the most cautious people in the world, but he knew that they shouldn’t have died the way they did. And he didn’t really want to confirm it or even admit that all he had in the world now was the other man in front of him, and his father’s sister and her family.

A moment later he tugged his hand out of Ryou’s and reached to grab his discarded suitcase.

Ryou let his hands fall to his side when Bane’s hand pulled away and he just watched his friend lift his suitcase. One hand lifted to readjust the bag strap on his shoulder. He nodded.

“Then let’s go.” He stepped away from the building and walked a few steps before stopping and looking back over his shoulder to check Bane was actually following. For a brief moment, the urge to try and pry again arose, but he fought it back down. He’d know soon enough. Bane had promised. And if he didn’t, he’d find a way to find out later.
