Flowers were pretty. Fragile-looking, but strong. Delicate. They made a lot of people smile when they received one. Kaidoh fingered a petal of one, standing in the middle of the gardens that the gardening club tended to, and wondered if An would smile if he gave her one.

He was still kicking himself about last week. She'd asked him for a hug, and instead of being content with that much, he'd pushed things and kissed her, even confessing his crush to her. She'd turned him down kindly, but it was still a rejection, and he'd felt like an idiot. But...she hadn't shot him down completely. She'd only told him that she didn't like him like that yet. So...maybe there was a way he could make up for making her uncomfortable.

Sakuno was coming to do her daily watering at the garden. It had actually been a while since she had come to tend to them on her own with all the events going on lately. It was a bit refreshing to have the alone time. As she was about to start watering she noticed that she was in fact not alone. Someone was there, and not someone she was familiar with.

"Ano... can I help you with something?" she called out to him softly.

Kaidoh jerked, the petal falling away from his fingers as he straightened. Hissing a bit under his breath in embarrassment at being caught, he looked at her. Ryuuzaki...Sakuno? He thought that was her name. "...Sorry. I was just...looking."

"Oh no, it's alright." she smiled. It was nice to see different people come and look at the flowers. She moved over to the flowers he had been admiring and sprinkled the water lightly over them. "If you like any of them I can give you one." Sakuno offered, noticing he had been fiddling with the petals of one.

Tucking his hands into his pockets awkwardly, he took a step back so she could reach the rest of the flowers. "I don't need any," he insisted, a little gruffly but it was because of his embarrassment. "You just give these out?"

"If someone wants one I don't see why not." she replied simply. "So long as they ask of course, it would be sad to see everyone plucking flowers." the braided haired girl giggled lightly. His tough and distant exterior didn't affect her too much; she had dealt with those types plenty before anyway. She wasn't one to be intimidated or judge others anyway.

"Lots of people like to give flowers as gifts too. I've helped pick out flowers for special occasions to give to some of the staff at least." Sakuno explained as she moved onto the next patch of flowers.

He blinked at that, and at his good fortune. Someone who knew about flowers and would let him have some? He'd been thinking about ordering some, but his money was very limited. He only had what his parents could afford to send him as an allowance, which wasn't much.

"So...you would know what kinds of flowers someone would want?" he asked.

"Well... I can't really speak for each individual person but I know a bit of the language of flowers to help for certain occasions." she smiled back to him again. Perhaps he had come to look for a flower for some reason?

"I didn't know flowers had a language," he admitted, looking around at them. So many...he wouldn't know where to begin, really.

"Most of them all have meanings stemming from hope, happiness, strength, beauty, friendship, and of course love. But there are lots of other meanings as well." Sakuno explained thoughtfully as she continued watering. It was part of the reason she had grown to love flowers so much. Each one could express more than just the simple beauty of its shape but a deeper meaning. Something that had a language all its own to express things to others besides a beautiful shape or aroma.

"Is there a flower that means all of that?" he wondered.

"Well... not one flower alone can capture them all in the language but there are flowers that express them all in different colors; namely the carnation and the rose." she couldn't help but giggle a little. She had never seen someone want to find so many things in just one flower. "Is that what you're looking for... um..?" Oh how rude of her, she hadn't even learned his name yet. "I'm sorry, I never caught your name. I'm Ryuuzaki Sakuno." she smiled, giving him her full attention as she stopped watering for a moment.

"I know," he said without thinking. "Uh...I mean...I've seen you around," Kaidoh fumbled before remembering to introduce himself with a polite bow. "Kaidoh Kaoru."

"It's nice to meet you Kaidoh-san." she bowed slightly back to him. "So was there a type of flower you were looking for, Kaidoh-san?"

"I don't know," he looked around again. "Something...like an apology. I don't know how to speak in flowers."

"An apology..?" That wasn't a request she was expecting at all. In fact, that was a rather hard thing to express in flowers. "There's the yellow rose but... it means to simply forgive and forget; is that what you wanted to say..?" she frowned slightly. It sure wasn't exactly a happy thing to give or so she thought.

"Not...really. Not the 'forget' part." He did want to apologize to An, but he didn't want her to forget how he felt about her. "Maybe its too complicated for flowers..."

"Perhaps I could make a suggestion." she smiled lightly, and bent down to show a flower. "How about one that expresses faithfulness? Like an apology and a promise to stay true?" Sakuno asked, presenting a blue violet.

"Really? That's what it means?" He moved closer to crouch next to her, looking down at the colorful plant. The meaning was actually...perfect. Exactly what he wanted to say. "I wonder if she'd like it," he said to himself under his breath.

"Would you like one?" she smiled. It was clear from his expression that this was definitely the flower he had been looking for. She didn't catch what he said to himself but it sounded as if he was content with the violet.

"You wouldn't mind?" He glanced up at her, already touching the petals of one very gently.

"Not at all, I'd be happy to." With that Sakuno took some tools from her small pouch that she used for gardening work. She carefully cut the stem and wrapped the bottom thoughtfully with some extra plastic and ribbon she happened to have as well. It was from the last staff request, she had wrapped up a grand amount of roses and so had quite a bit of wrapping left.

"Here you are." she smiled once more, presenting the modest flower to him.

"Do I need to do something special to take care of it?" he asked, taking it carefully in his hands.

Sakuno took a small packet from her pouch and handed it to him as well. "Just use this solution in water. It should keep the flower lively for at least a week." It was some of the standard solution that the local store used. They had been kind enough to give extras to the club and they came in handy for things like this.

He took it gratefully, not sure when he could give the flower to An. "Thank you, Ryuuzaki-san," Kaidoh said.

"I hope you're able to express what you wanted with it, Kaidoh-san." Sakuno nodded to him and then went back to her watering work. The rest of the flowers weren't going to water themselves after all.

"Oh... if you'd like to I don't see why not." she smiled and motioned to an extra watering can that she always left around. "You don't have to if you don't want to though." she assured him.

"I don't mind. How much do I water them?" He asked as he gently set the flower out of the way and moved towards the other watering can.

"Not very much, just sprinkle them for a few seconds and move on to the next bed of flowers." Sakuno instructed happily, demonstrating for him as she spoke. It was kind of funny seeing someone like him offer to help with watering the plants. She was always used to boys wanting to do all the heavy lifting or digging labor.

Kaidoh nodded and started on the opposite side of the flower beds, counting out a few seconds exactly and moved down the row, just as directed. He figured it was the least he could do was to help her after she'd helped him.

It wasn't very long before the two of them had completely finished taking care of the garden. When Sakuno was done she gently set down her watering can next to the garden and walked over to Kaidoh to thank him. She brought along the flower as well. "Thank you so much helping me with the garden, Kaidoh-san." she smiled, presenting the violet to him once more.

"It's a nice garden," he nodded, taking the flower again, offering her a small smile in return. "Thank you again, Ryuuzaki-san."
