It was not an easy thing to do. To say goodbye. Sissy has been a member of the Garcia family for 19 years. She and I have been together for the last eight. It was obvious when I came home from work today that the time to say goodbye was here. She was behind the entertainment center in the living room. After about 10 minutes she stumbled out. Her hind legs were very weak. It seems like only yesterday that she bitch-slapped Roscoe for sticking his nose in her face. It was more like a month ago.
Sissy didn't have the strength for much anymore. She managed to drink some water, but food was out of the question. I believe she managed to hold on until we came home from work today. She was so tired, but she didn't want to die alone.
Shannon came home and took the kids to her parents'. Then she and I took the pictures below, and Shannon drove us in my car to Emergency Animal Clinic about 12 miles from our house. It was so hard knowing that Sissy wouldn't be coming home with us. I'd never get to hear her sweet little meow again. We didn't drag it out. We stayed with her, we took turns holding her, and we both cried a lot. And then we gave the doctor the word. One injection, and ten seconds later she was gone. She was so beautiful. I miss her already.
