Man, why is Zito so inconsistent? It's frustrating to watch this guy pitch. He's either really good, or really shitty. Rarely is he in between. Tonight was a horrible time for him to refuse to adjust to the Tigers making adjustments to him. And Scutaro didn't help matters any by basically giving the hitters a clue to which pitch was coming. He would break toward second when a breaking ball was coming, and hold his ground at SS when a fastball was the call. The Tigers were smart, and once again, the A's were not.
And the A's are the laughing stock of baseball offensively with runners on base. They do their worst hitting, and take the worst approach when the runs are just waiting to score. It's only Game 1, but if they can't win at home, we shouldn't expect them to play better at Comerica Park. Good teams score when they have runners on base and less than two outs. The A's can't be bothered to do whatever it takes at all costs to get those guys home.
I turned the TV off before the 5th inning was over. It was too painful to watch them revert to sucking. Zito an ace? He smelled more like ass tonight. Shades of Chokeland all over again. 0-12 with runners in scoring position and they grounded into 4 double plays. Inexcusable. They took their pills that make them stupid again.
