how did d-a-d-d-y deliver?

it still sounds weird to me to realize before long, i am going to be someone's father. my mom has now taken to calling me 'daddy'. whoa!

as for the delivery, it was on a promise i made shortly after hearing the news. if i hit another home run this season, it was going to be for my kid. it happened in last night's game.

i got to catch up with a few teammates that haven't been around for a few games. Paul and his sister Julie had been vacationing in Montana. Kim and Troy Comiskey moved to St. Louis but are in town this week, so they played with us. they have just returned from a three week vacation in Australia, so it was great hearing about their adventures. they were excited for my news of course.

as for the game against Chicago Metro Deli, i struggled early. we all did actually. the sun was glaring, right into the batters eyes. i popped up on the infield in my first AB, then roped a laser right to the chest of their right fielder. it was caught. thankfully i got a third chance when BABS (my team) scored 5 in the 5th to take a 6-1 lead. i came up with no outs in the bottom of the 6th. Dan Copenhagen and his wife Shawn each singled to start the inning. i unloaded on the third pitch, sending it to the center field fence (300 feet away) for an easy three-run inside-the-park home run. 9-2 was the final score.

if we win next week, and that's a big IF, we'll be 10-2 and ranked #1 for the playoffs in 2 weeks. if we lose, we'll fall to third, and will have to beat Second Coming in round 1, and Our Gang in the championship game to win it all. that road will be tougher since we play our final make up game against Our Gang next Thursday, who beat us 6-3 last Thursday. we control our destiny.

I'm so happy that i came through with a home run last night. too bad my parents missed it. they were coming in from the parking lot, and were too far away to have seen it. my teammates told them all about it though.
