I will endeavor to get through all I missed over this coming weekend - the fact I'm off today will help. But why, you might ask, are you off today? This is supposed to be your big push at work to get out the last annual publication out on Monday.
Ah, f-list, you are so right.
I didn't post about it, but 2 weekends ago my car died in DC, near the Tidal Basin on Ohio Dr if anyone cares. I play on a work softball team and was trying to parallel park when the clutch went to the floor. For those that don't drive stick sifts, this is bad, very bad. Car was then stuck in reverse. So auto club sent a tow truck and they took it to a garage in Adams Morgan (a couple blocks from the zoo) since getting it towed to my garage in MD would have been a $200 bill.
This was Sunday the 13th. Picked the car up on the 15th after work with a friend so we could get the rental and my car from the Metro station back to the rental agency.
So... I thought the new clutch was 'tight' from the get-go. But most new ones are. The feel got progressively worse as this week wore on. So yesterday I left work on time to get to my garage to have them adjust it.
Best laid plans...
The clutch broke as I was sitting in a left turn lane to get onto my garage's street. The gas station at the corner called in their tow truck driver and he took me the last 1/3 of a mile to my garage. Fee for this service $58. Standard 'hook-up' fee.
So, my guy says I should give the garage in DC a choice of getting the car or paying to have him fix it. After 6 calls back and forth (they wanted me to arrange the tow and they'd pay for it... what am I? a listing service?) Anyway they are picking up the car sometime today even though they couldn't understand why I had an issue with it not being touched until Sunday... go figure
So now onto the real drama of yesterday evening. I called 3 Enterprise Rent-a-Cars, none had cars yesterday at 5pm. So I called 3 different cab companies. Two didn't service my area (I was in Bowie, they were Bowie companies and I was going 5.6 miles to Crofton... huh?) the 3rd said they'd send out a cab. Five calls and 1.5 hours later, I walked home.
The upshot? I have a huge ass blister on the bottom of my foot. I would only click on the icon below if you have a strong constitution. It isn't pretty. My normal foot isn't wonderful and this is very much less so...
So, I am home today until 3pm when Enterprise can get me into a car...
I am so glad this week is almost over.
