Lots of sex centered reading today. I finally got started on Foucault's The History of Sexuality. It is well written and perceptive work, though I've already encountered bits inside that piss me off, his "curdled milk" example in particular, and I'm not a man who is easily offended. "Do as thou wilt" Isn't the entirety of my preferred law simply because it leaves very little room for an "Only just don't rape little kids for crying out loud" corollary.

On a lighter note, I discovered a livejournal maintained by one Ali Davis, a porno-store clerk who has seen fit to relate her experiences with the stickier side of humanity for the benefit of those curious. A really useful observation of hers I shall recount here: "I think a woman in a porn movie, as a rule, is taken as a general woman rather than a specific woman. She is there to stand in for general womanness. (And, based the number of rewind fees I dish out, once the viewer comes she ceases to exist.)"

Though she doesn't make any connections to the format of porno itself through that, it does help to explain a lot of things that have confused me for a some time about that form of media.
