Pompeii / Pompeya

Dec 27, 2009 15:49

After putting off this visit for some days, I finally managed to go. I chose Sunday, which is not a good day as the entrance is free for everybody... but I also decided to go early.

It took me 25 minutes from Torres de Satelite to the entrance of the museum. Nothing, compared to the hour or hour and a half that with traffic, the same distance would take.
The line to enter the museum was not that long and it was moving quickly. I think I waited around 20 minutes to get into the actual display of Pompeii.

No pictures or even notebooks to take notes allowed. I saw several items (notebooks and pens) confiscated by police officers. The exhibition has authentic pieces from the devastated area and they are just amazing! How could these artifacts be preserved in such conditions? We are talking about the year 79 of our era. What impressed me the most was the technique used for the wall murals and the mosaics (the stones used were tiny!). I am almost sure that I was able to spot ash from the Vesubius volcano in several of the murals displayed.

After one hour and a half inside the exhibition. It was time to get out. I decided not to stay and visit the rest of the museum (It's been ages since my last visit to the anthropology museum, and the area is so big that it needs a complete day). I went out and the line to enter the exhibition of Pompeii was incredibly long!!!! It was wise to arrive early. I got there at 11:00 and went out at 13:00 hrs.

The trip back home was really quick. 15 minutes from Reforma to Echegaray and then 5 minutes more from there to my house.

When I got home, my mom was preparing "mole". I helped her. Finally we ate at around 14:30.

I leave here two pictures. One of the souvenir (I couldn't resist the pen and notebook, jajaja!) and the other is the dish I ate: chicken with rice and mole.
