amazing how the most mundane things can instantly transport you back to a happier time in your life
and have you dwell on a current time.

the scent of packaging tape
plastic musky smell
reminds me of an old love
sitting on her livingroom floor taping up packages of clothes
for the fortunate ones who paid a few bucks for my old shirts
her head in my lap. her dog at my feet. it's been years since that day.

the crinkling sound of packaging tape
applying and removing
for little traveling secrets sent off to a recent love
sitting in the dark smokey corner of that bar
her by my side. her lips on mine. it's been months since that kiss.

the combination of the sites and sounds of making a package
and the words and music of a Kings of Convenience song
made my eyes well up.

why? longing for that? yes.
why? loving that? yes.
why? missing that? yes.
why? losing that? yes.

the longing was inevitable.
the missing is inevitable.
[fill in the blank]
the connection was inevitable.
love was inevitable.
yesterday
today
tomorrow
inevitable.

i'll still send the package
in hopes it warms not only your head and neck
but also your heart.

[more packaging tape is needed. as are sad songs]
