Well, last week was basically the worst I've had in a while, but only started around Thursday.
So, I've been taking the classes required for a one-year Masters degree program without being admitted to the program yet, since they needed time to do a GPA recalculation after my last semester. They told me several times that if I got straight As in my courses for the spring, that they'd seek a minimum GPA waiver and still admit me (my undergrad GPA in my last two years was very low due to my own deluded course selection, less-than-full effort, and the difficulty of my school). I've been working to improve it with part-time classes while I decide what to do with my career.
Back to the one-year Masters program staff, they got my GPA recalculation and I was anxious to hear what they had to say about the admission process, so I talked to the director after the secong program orientation, at the end of a long day. She told me that they had decided that since my GPA was still too low, that they would wait and see what I got in the classes that I'm taking now before making a decision.
I can't keep getting the runaround, for several real reasons. It seems like they are genuine about wanting me in the program, since they have already placed me in an internship, but I need to be admitted to a program to receive ANY financial aid whatsoever.
Now, at a state school like Towson, the grant aid is minimal and unlikely to go to grad students, but anyone can get federal loans to cover their tuition expenses, as long as they are in a degree program and taking 6 credits per semester. Unfortunately, though I am taking 13 grad credits this semester, I am not admitted to the program yet and cannot receive federal student loans, which I was counting on to cover my costs. Blah.
So, I'm going to talk with the program director more on Monday, but it seems like their decision is set for now. I unfortunately freaked out and sent an email reflecting a little of this to the Program Manager, who has always been more personable to me, but she forwarded to the director and I had to feel weird about that action (probably not the most professional in hindsight, but oh well) and apologize for it.
I have the oddest issue ever. I have an '01 Ford Focus with 62K, ran well before and now even better because I had the spark plugs and a power steering switch replaced. My problem is that the car often stalls when I make hard right turns or steer sharply to the right on roads. If I accelerate during the turn and don't have to make the turn, then accelerate, I'm usually alright, but I can't always accelerate during the whole of a really sharp or long turn. One more thing, it usually only does this when I'm below half a tank of gas. Any thoughts, those who are mechanically inclined? Both the repairs I described earlier are part of the effort to fix this, but so far no results excpet running better normally. Honestly, with all the car trouble that I've had lately, I wish I could just give driving up for good.
So cross your fingers that I impress my current profs as much as last semester's and that my car gets fixed!
