What would have helped me is more independent and less team sports. Also-- learning how to moderate portion size. Finally, learning how to recognize and eat from hunger and desire rather than fear of scarcity or social engagement. It didn't even occur to me to ask myself "Am I hungry?" until my mid-20s! I still forget on a regular basis.

When I was in high school, one of the cheerleaders was told she was obese, according to a BMI reading in gym class, and everyone in school heard about it. Although she was upset, most people commented that she didn't look overweight. I think it would have been much worse for someone who thought she was overweight ( ... )
