QUESTION FOR "M"

In order to get my files on to my laptop, would I be better getting an external hard drive, or some kind of firewire cable? I promise I wont obsess about this anymore if you help me out just a weensy bit here. Oh, and how big of a router do I get? I noticed some of them said for small rooms/dorms, would that be big enugh to reach into my bedroom (on the opposite side of my house) or should I get a more powerful one? Any suggestions on which on to get?
