Hiccups and a wee rant

Dec 27, 2003 08:55

Ever had the hiccups so hard your eyes watered? First for me... Rather annoying.

So got into a discussion last night with a person I write with in a genre apart from LotR. Again. I love her. I do. She's dear to me, like a sister and we're different enough to spark ideas in one another, but able to see where the other is coming from.

Sometimes though...we spark in a not good way and get annoyed. *G* Normal for any friendships I have.

The topic of confidence and feedback came up.

First of all, every writer loves feedback, of course. It's proof that someone is reading and enjoying what we create.

I've never been a person who lives for feedback, or will stop writing if I don't get feedback. Naturally, those who say these things rather annoy me. I write because it's fun. I'd write if I was the only person who spoke my language. It is fun to write for others, but to expect feedback as your due course??

Oy. That's arrogant in my opinion.

A reader owes a writer nothing. Not. A. Thing.

And how many times on lists and boards have I seen writers, some of them well-known, grousing about readers. Stuuuupid. That's it...alienate your audience. Now you'll really get a load of feedback.

*sigh*

The arrogant attitude of some writers both amazes and annoys me endlessly. Yes, I agree, you write very well.

But your attitude that literally drips in arrogant acknowledgement of your talent kills my admiration faster than anything else.

I admire confident people.

Not arrogant ones.

BIG difference.

My advise, dear friend...and it's worth only the air I breathe as I type....humble yourself a bit. Let readers feel they can approach you and show a little of that warmth I know and love.

Stop being the goddess on the mountain. You're driving people off.

Even Jesus washed dirty feet, ya know. ~.^

(((Hugs)))

I love you, you know that. Why else would I get annoyed and spout off?
