I think so often we look at writing as a solitary thing that Must Be Done Without Disturbance.
I think that's just bunk. Sure, you do need time to think but you can do that anywhere with some training. I know mothers who write while their kids are running around like nutters, and sometimes I think that energy comes into our writing and gives us the impetus to go.
Making writing out as something elite or sacred or for those who are scholarly is just hooey. I believe that more and more the older I get. If a story comes to a person and they want to write it, they should.
My artist friend, Ramie, gets ideas all the time but said she talks herself out of writing because, "I'm not a writer."
Piffle! Pooey! You are a writer if you write. Writing is not elite and I get SO frustrated by people who try to make it that way!
I say have fun and enjoy yourself. Don't listen to those who say you'll never go far or get published. Who cares!? If you write only for money or accolades then that is your right, but if you want to just sit and play with words and have fun.....GO FOR IT.
Never let anyone tell you you aren't qualified to write. Never let anyone tell you you need to go read and study before you post a story. Criticism is good, IF the person truly has YOUR best interests at heart, but if they're just being mean-spirited as if there is only so much creativity in the world which is such nonsense, then ignore them....
...and write.
