to sleep, perchance to dream

Dec 22, 2013 23:02

its ten forty two on a sunday night and there are two days until christmas eve and it doesnt really feel like winter or christmas at all

winter in florida is normally like this, all sorts of 'cold' in the morning and then hot from about 9 on but sometimes we get lucky  and its colder until after school and we get to walk home with only a tiny breeze and shivering feet in black flip flops because those are the only shoes we wear no matter how cold it is unless we have to work or abbey or sam convince us otherwise which doesnt happen often anymore

our ankles are a bit swollen from work today and we can feel them aching aching aching like a dull throb and maybe if it were colder in our room it would go away but even though this is the coldest room in the house we still feel so stiflingly hot and maybe it is the two green blankets that we always wear to keep the monsters from biting off our feet and hands while we sleep and maybe it is our oddly high body temperature that everyone keeps commenting on when then feel our skin for more than two seconds which happens very rarely

maybe it is something else

there is a dreamcatcher across the room that we think our grandpa made us or maybe someone our grandpa knew from the reservation and it used to have two feathers, one pinkish red and one yellow, until the red one fell off in the middle of the night for some odd reasons and we remember that we couldnt sleep that night because if we did whatever made the feather fall off would hurt us and school the next day was absolutely horrible but it was worth it
and it is surrounded by multicolored plastic glow-in-the-dark stars that have been there for almost as long as the dream catcher but none of them have fallen off except for the ones that we made fall off so that is good, at least
both are supposed to rest above the head of the bed to protect us but instead they are closer to the foot because the bed has been moved so many times in the years since they were installed in the ceiling but thats okay because even though they are far away they still do their job most of the time and we try not to think about the times when they dont

there are christmas lights, large blue and white snowflakes, right outside our window and they shine through the tops of the blinds even though we try so hard to keep them closed as tight as possible so absolutely nothing can look through unless we are near the closet because there is an unavoidable gap
they shine bright bright bright like a weird sun only less intense and there are tinges of pink from the candy canes from the ground and we dont understand how light works well enough to figure out why this happens

our computer keeps freezing and the audio post from tumblr keeps making high pitched noises of the same note whenever it happens and the screen is so bright and we are not wearing glasses because it is ten fifty seven and we are supposed to go to sleep at eleven in order to sleep enough for school or work but it is winter break even though it doesnt feel like it and even though this is the third day we have had to work the last two days so the usual rules continued to apply
and everything is too busy to sleep
our head is too busy to sleep
the screen is too bright to sleep
the room is too warm to sleep
we have too many excuses to sleep

other:kind of a writing project of sorts
