When he spoke, though, Jack moved in and took hold of his husband. He'd pushed it all down, he'd had so much practice at repressing the pain, so his own hurt wasn't for Joe because he just couldn't deal with that. It was all for Logan.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, Logan," he said softly, at a total loss for what to say. Promises like that were made to be broken and Jack hoped that the island wouldn't make a liar of him eventually...or of Logan. He couldn't stand losing Logan.

Words failed him, and Logan was silent as he clutched the other man's shirt, his fingers digging in as he inhaled sharply and struggled not to start sobbing again.
"It's not fair," he said finally, his voice low and hollow.

"I've got you," he added, kissing Logan's hair. So long as he focused all his attention on Logan he didn't feel anything of the loss himself. And he was good with that.

Losing Joe had hurt, but with Jack here he had a reason to keep going. If he Lost that, Logan knew he'd never survive.
