The first five of my music drabbles
Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars Winter had taken over the island once again, altering the landscape and covering everything in a blanket of white. There was something about the blinding white of it all that left Logan feeling calm, and as he let himself sink down into the drift he closed his eyes.
It didn’t matter that it was cold, same way it didn’t matter if the water started to soak through his clothes layer by layer.
He could feel someone sit down beside him, and he didn’t have to open his eyes to know who it was. So he didn’t. Instead he leaned lightly against his silent companion, laughing a little as they wrapped a scarf around him and pressed a kiss to his cheek.
Local H - All-Right (oh Yeah) It didn’t matter who had thrown the first punch once they hit the floor, rolling around like the Neanderthals they had a tendency to become when their egos clashed or emotions started to run high. Logan swung hard, his fist slamming into the other man’s jaw as he struggled to get the upper hand, and he snarled as he went at the other man with everything he had.
Still, Logan rarely fought to win, and he was hardly surprised when he found himself on his back, pinned down and helpless to do much more than take the beating he was getting.
He felt breathless, and every last inch of him ached… Still, he never felt more alive than he did during a fight, and he laughed manically as he blinked up at his opponent.
“Come on,” he growled.
Blue October - Breakfast After Ten There was something about watching her walk away that hurt more than any insult ever could. And oh, when it came to cutting words, she still had the best. She still knew exactly what to say to cut to the bone, and Logan savored every line.
He rufused to play the part of the broken boy though, and his smile was cocksure as he laughed her off and turned away, enjoying the way she tensed as the sound reached her ears.
So much pride, so much attitude… it was all such a game sometimes. Who was better, who was right, who was strong enough to stay away… It was like watching the worlds most fucked up staring contest, and even though Logan almost never won, he always had to play.
He had to. Because one day… One day he was going to walk away and she’d be the one crawling back.
Really. He could feel it in his gut.
KT Tunstall - Fake Plastic Trees Sitting on the beach, he didn’t move as the waves rolled in, soaking his jeans and causing the sand to stick to his clothes… feet… skin. Everything. His chest ached so badly that just breathing hurt, and as he exhaled, Logan had to fight back the sob that was just itching to slip from his throat and shatter his pride.
He couldn’t do this. He just couldn’t do this anymore, and as he got to his feet and walked into the water, he knew he wasn’t coming back.
There would be no sad goodbyes or touching moments, just waves and a heavy pressure on his lungs… One gasp, and then nothing.
Spin Doctors - Two Princes It wasn’t as if Logan didn’t already have a competitive streak, but watching someone else vie for Ronnie’s attention was enough to bring out the worst in him.
It had started off innocently. The occasional sarcastic comment, a challenging look here and there. Still, even Logan hadn’t anticipated how intense it was going to get. He couldn’t have foreseen the full on in your face arguments and the constant pissing contests as they both tried to prove they were the alpha male.
They’d both been so wrapped up in each other, that in the end they hardly even noticed the third player. The one who ended up getting what they’d been fighting for in the first place.
If either of them had known anything, they’d have seen that all they were doing was turning Veronica off and pushing her away.
