Logan and Joe before the wedding. - January 13th

Dec 16, 2006 12:52

Logan wasn’t sure where Neil was off getting ready, but he was back at the hut pulling on the suit the clothes box had offered up at the last minute. It was all black besides the crisp white button down shirt which Logan was now buttoning up, an uneasy look on his face as he looked at the wall rather then Joe ( Read more... )

"You need some help?" Joe asked, looking at the untied tie hanging around Logan's neck. It was really fucking surreal to be wearing the suit the clothing box had given him for the third time, considering he'd worn a suit fewer times than that in his entire life back home.

"Uh, yeah... I mean, no, I can do it," Logan said quietly, his hands feeling unsteady as he started to knot the tie. It felt a lot like he was tying a noose. Turning so he was facing Joe compleatly, he forced a smile.

"You think a lot of people are gonna show?" he asked, voice tight and nervous.

"Your friends, Neil's friends," Joe said, his tone a little light and almost forced. In his entire life, he didn't think he'd ever seen any as nervous as Logan looked in that moment. He looked like he was about to snap if Joe said the wrong thing.

"It's not gonna be small, anyway." Maybe not as formal as some of the other weddings on the island, but he doubted it would be as small as Anne and Ariel's had been.

Logan managed a sloppy half windsor knot and raked his fingers through his hair nervously, causing it to stand on end as he forced another smile and nodded. "Right, right... Cause we invited the whole fucking island. Another brilliant move on my part," he laughed dryly.

"Your tie looks like shit," Joe said, reaching out and tugging it, rolling his eyes a bit. He was so fucking nervous he couldn't even tie his tie properly, so Joe pulled him closer and untied it. "Don't worry about who's gonna be there, man. Who the fuck cares? Just as long as you and Neil are there, right? And the people you care about." Which, he assumed, wasn't the whole island.

Logan let Joe tug him closer and fix it, his eyes wandering around the room again nervously. "I'm pretty sure the only guest I'm worried about is me," he admitted, trying to keep his tone light.

"You're mostly dressed, so you might as well go," Joe said dryly, fixing the tie for Logan, looking up to meet his gaze. "You thinking about taking off, man?" Because that would really fucking suck.

"No, I just... I dunno, I'm nervous I guess," Logan lied, trying to look calm for Joe's sake.

Joe smoothed down the front of Logan's shirt and then stepped back, rolling his eyes at himself. He was such a fucking sap for Logan and here he was, fixing his fucking tie and smoothing down his clothes and making sure he looked pretty for his wedding. Logan was such an ass for making him like this.

"You'd be fucking nuts not to be nervous," he said easily, giving a shrug.

Logan met Joe's eyes with his own and nodded. "Yeah, no... I know that. I know it's like, normal or whatever. I'm fine though. I'll be fine."

He was quiet for a long moment and then looked away again. "Joe, if anything happens today, I mean... I don't think it will or whatever, but if something did happen, you wouldn't hate me for it, right? Like, if I mess up."

Joe frowned deeply at that, studying Logan as if he expected something to go wrong right then and there. He wasn't the one who'd be hurt, though. Neil would be and Joe hated to think about that, but he also knew he could never hate Logan.

"I won't hate you," Joe assured him quietly. "Doesn't matter what happens, I won't hate you."

Logan nodded, hoping that was the truth. He looked down at himself and then sat down on the bed... his and Neil's bed, staring at the ground. "I can't believe it's already time. It felt like I had forever to get this all sorted out, you know? And now..."

"Now you're down to it," Joe nodded in agreement, then went over to sit beside Logan, leaning his elbows on his knees. "You're scared, right? That's expected. I mean, Christ, I'm nervous and I'm not even marrying anyone."

"Scared, yeah..." Logan agreed quietly.

In his head though, he was already planning his escape. He'd get rid of Joe somehow, maybe ask the older man to go to the compound for something, that way Joe wouldn't have to be a part of it... that way Joe wouldn't end up being the bad guy too. And once Joe was gone... Logan would split. He'd head into the jungle and hide out or something.

Joe glanced over at Logan, watching him carefully as he thought about the coming day and what was going to happen, what would change. He wanted to lie to himself and say that nothing was going to change, but things would have to change. Logan was getting married.

"It'll be okay, man," he said after a moment.

"Yeah, it'll be okay, I guess... I just have a feeling- I mean, I know that things are going to change after today," Logan replied honestly.

"Everything is about to change Joe, and I'm not sure it's all for the best."
