The company that run these things have been rather milking the situation, "Ooo UFO, we can't discount anything, we haven't found the blade".
An interesting explanation I heard this morning was that an MOD stealth UAV was being tested around there, plausible given the fact that there is a bombing range next door. So small stealth UAV with lights...possibly discharging defense flares...hits a turbine. Gets cleaned up very quickly.
Or more likely, the blade just broke off (it's not unheard of), the other blade hit it and sent it some distance away.
Or there is a very happy old one clutching his newly acquired blade in a dark recess of the universe. :)
Ah, here we go. Well, given it is reported as having a defensive capability I'd suggest one of those discharging flares as a very possible explanation of the 'octopus' effect. Similar but on smaller scale to this. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IJv8VZC1UVo
