Very much buried myself in writing the new album at the moment. So far so good. I've got a lot of tracks at demo stage. Then possibly a few reworkings of things from the Dystopia CD. So I think I need to sit down now and work out what the structure of the album is going to be like, what songs I want on there and which songs I need to get finished off.
I think the only 3 tracks that are guaranteed to be on there at the moment are Skullfuck, Revolution and Faktory. I think everything will get a re-evaluation and almost certainly a tidy up. When I wrote those tracks originally I mixed them on hi-fi speakers, needless to say the new monitor speakers show up numerous flaws. Hopefully, schedule permitting, I can get over to Hamburg to mix it at the Nationhood studio and take advantage of the very nice facilities there, not to mention Ronan's double expressos. I can get it sounding 95% great here...but that extra 5% is the difference between what I can do and what is possible. It's just that sparkle that putting something through £1000 worth of valve compressor and an expensive desk gives you that I can't achieve here. You could get very esoteric and start talking about positive harmonic distortion and phi, but in reality what is means is it will sound that bit more polished and professional.
So the odd hours I'm keeping at the moment are me working until I drop. I find being very tired a very creative state of mind, the point where your brain is in an alpha cycle and your subconscious and conscious are closely linked. Once there the ideas seem to pour out.
I think next week will also see a bit of an overhaul of the live material for Dark City and the 2nd leg of the VNV tour.
And in between all that, I'm DJ'ing at Wendy House as usual next Saturday. Sadly I'll miss the birthday celebrations in May as I'm still on tour so it'll be the last time to catch me there until June.
