Okay, so this was just an amazing concert. I don't think there are words to describe how much I loved it.
We went to the Pima County Fair in Tucson to pass the day before the concert. Yep, that's right, folks. We drove 823 miles for a concert. But...it's Bret so...hell yeah it was worth it! We were thinking we could get ice cream, go see the tigers, get food, and then go find seats for the concert when we heard some very familiar music.
Someone was playing Poison songs...but we knew Bret wasn't there yet. Confusified, we decided to go investigate. Sure enough, the B*M*B guys were rockin' out at sound check. A crowd was gathering so we made our way to the fence in the very front.
Many women there were freaking out because they thought Bret was up there. And from the back, it really did look like him. But, it wasn't. It was Pete, the lead guitarist. Though he was wonderfully impressive as well.
"We thought you were Bret Michaels."
"You were sadly mistaken."
They worked on sound check, rockin' out with a few more Poison songs as well as others before Pete started to get irritated. The microphones were messed up and he was trying to fix them. But, it was the fact that Bret's microphone was fucked up that pissed him off the most.
He finally shot one of the scariest looks ever at one of the sound guys, stormed off, threw a water bottle at the wall, and disappeared back stage. So cute. It took two guys and more than fifteen minutes to get him to come back out. Though he was still clearly pissed.
"Welcome to sound check."
We watched them go through the rest of sound check in a kind of awed fascination. We talked to one of the security guys who thought we were crazy for coming so far to see Bret. He tried to test me, too.
"First album?"
"Look What the Cat Dragged In."
"Impressive."
Stupidly easy question, but oh well. The next four hours - that's right, we stood at that fence for four hours because there was no way in hell we were losing that spot. Less than two feet from the stage? Fuck no if I'm moving. We talked with quite a few people who all seemed to think we were crazy for coming from Wyoming. Of course we didn't give a shit what they thought.
The lady standing by me was talking to one of her neighbors on the phone who said they had backstage tickets but weren't coming. What the fucking hell?! How can you have them and not use them? We offered money, a ride, everything, but couldn't even begin to comprehend these incredibly insane people. It turned out they had regular fair tickets and not backstage passes, so that eased things a little.
Time went surprisingly fast and when it got to be about an hour before the concert, people started freaking out.
"We want Bret! We want Bret!"
Uh...he wasn't even there yet. That was a little annoying but amusing at the same time. Every time someone walked behind the screen or came out from the back they freaked out. I was really thinking it would be funny because they freaked out about everyone else if they didn't know when to really freak out - when Bret got there.
We kept speculating who we saw behind the screen and such but no one was entirely sure who everyone back there was. Random security people kept peeking out and even almost ran away at one point which was pretty damn funny.
Finally, Big John came out and everyone absolutely flipped. He introduced the band, Bret's book and finally Bret himself.
Once the concert got going...wow. I can't even describe how awesome it was to be that close. Bret kept pointing and looking at us specifically - no I'm not making that up. When you're less than two feet away, you can tell someone is looking directly at you. He touched us multiple times as well. Yes, I know I sound like a total fangirl, but whatever.
Then we got a totally awesome surprise when we saw Raine and Jorja - Bret's daughters - off to the side of the stage. Oh, my god. They were so adorable, I can't even describe it. To see them rocking out and Raine singing every word was just awesome. Bret didn't seem to always think so and looked a little disturbed to look over and see her singing "Unskinny Bop" and "Talk Dirty To Me" not to mention the two B*M*B songs he did. John was giving me sort of scary looks when I was trying to take pictures of the girls but since, every time they did something cute, I was all "Aw!!!" I figure he realized it was nothing scary.
Taya was there as well. Now, I didn't like her on Rock of Love but I'm pretty sure the girls don't like her either. At least Raine kept shooting her looks and such and didn't seem to want her to touch her. And Bret never really did look at Taya either. When he looked over it was at his girls.
I've decided, once again, that guitar playing is very sexy. Pete stayed directly in front of us for most of the concert, except when Bret was there. Dude definitely loves to play guitar and geez...once again with the no words to describe it.
Chuck is a very amusing drummer and yet a very impressive one as well. He kept making funny faces both at the girls and the guys while playing and somehow managed to appear in most of our pictures as well. (Photos are all
here).
After the concert, we went to get pictures with the guys. Well, Bret didn't do meet and greets but the other guys did. We got good ones with Ray, Chuck, Pete, and finally Big John, though John was in a hurry to go get Raine.
All in all, it was an absolutely amazing concert and well worth the hella long trip. I would do it again anytime.
