Japan is stupid. Apparently, some time after World War II, people here decided to plant billions of birch trees for lumber. Now that is all fine and good, but these damn birches are now producing zillions of pollen that fly around and cause everyone hell.
One article a while ago talked about how some country folk reported a fire here because they saw smoke... but actually the smoke was just a great, black cloud of pollen... UMM we have a problem here.
Whenever you plant tons of the same thing, you have a problem! Look what happened to the Irish when they planted all the same potatoes...
This is probably something Japan learned from America though (planting tons of the same thing).
