Last night died Margherita Hack, 91. Astrophysic, atheist, woman of interests and thoughts, she was one of the few female scientists widely known in Italy. Unfortunately, almost fifty years of active feminism hadn't been still enough, in my beautiful country, to superate old prejudices and a deep-rooted habit to sexism.
She was called by the press "la signora delle stelle", "the lady of the stars"; but she was an activist, too, deeply immersed in her Earth. A few of her battles, like the one about equal rights for all the couples, regardless of their sexual inclinations, the one about the necessity of euthanasia as a right and the one about the need for a laical, secular State, were fundamental into the Italian slow collective building of an ethic awareness.
Here you can find some basilar facts about her.
Thank you, Doc Hack, and good luck for your next voyage.
