a lot of my friends go to temple u and ive been down there a bajillion times to visit, and i suggest you REALLY go visit if u decide to go there. the school is great but it is smack dab in the middle of the ghetto and you have to be realllly careful if you step off campus. ive seen some not good things happen to people that i know

penn state (main campus) is a really good school. a lot of people dont like the fact that its so big bc getting around campus can be a pain in the butt.. although state college is a really tiny town, theres SO many activities/things to do on campus. greek life is HUGE and a lot of fun there (i dunno if ur interested in that, im in a sorority and i never thought id ever join but its definitely something to look into)

what do you want to major in?
bc depending on that you should pick a school too...
especially if you have to go to grad school afterwards.
a lot of times the undergrad programs are the same everywhere you go
personally i chose a small, inexpensive school to go to for undergrad since i have to go to med school anyway id rather shell out all the money for that rather than have my parents go into tens of thousands of dollars in debt for my undergrad.. but it depends on the way you look at things

hmm, yeah my parents just like temple because its close to home- i never really wanted to go there.

plus, pennstate, its way too many people that go there and too many from my school lol. I dont really want to go there either, I just have it as a safe school.

I am not sure at all what I want to major in. I think maybe something in communications and sociology and such. I have no clue though.

You're right, thats what my dad said too. That the undergrad doesnt even make a difference at all. One person I knew when to Temple and then now is going to Harvard! so yeah...

Its just so frustrating! lol, maybe the colleges I'm looking at are too hard. Rutgers seems like one of the best bets right now..cheap too.

Thanks for the comment :)

no problem
yeah when i was in highschool i was looking into temple too.. but it was still like $24k a year.. which is A LOT. the way i think, the number one problem with america (and americans) is debt.. and that americans seem to have no problem getting into debt. i dont want to be one of those people who has to pay off their college loans for the rest of their lives. so ive decided to wait for med school until i start taking out loans.

everyone (especially indian people) wants their son/daughter to go to a "prestigious"/"well known" school so that they'll get bragging rights at all the desi parties and so that their son/daughter will also "do well".. what they dont realize is that they'd fair well at no matter what school they go to as long as they are happy.

i go to a pennsylvania state school. its only $6200 a year for in-state peeps which isnt bad at all. rutgers isnt a bad school at all. there is lots of partying/drugs that go on there but i feel that its inevitable no matter where you go.

also make sure that you really consider the area that your school is in. A lot of my friends go to schools is REALLLY shitty/boring towns where they are stuck doing absolutely nothing-- which is why they get involved in the whole drug scene bc theres nothing better to do. rutgers is nice bc its in suburbia and so close to nyc and philly so you'll always find something to do there.

yeah, my parents could probably afford the colleges, thats a plus about it... theyre paying for my sisters at NYU. I dont want them to have to do it for me too though :-/

youre so right about indian parents lol, thats all my parents want to do. Theyre even getting me a counselor to help me get into a good college haha, cause one of their friends son's got into UPenn cause he had a counselor and my sister didnt have one and she didnt get in lol.

youre smart for doing the whole paying for med school thing, esp if you have to pay yourself. yeah, partying is inevitable and ivy league schools actually smoke more and everything lol.

ill def look into that area thing. right now the top of my list is rutgers, gwu (but my dad doesnt want me to go there), cooper union (but thats too hard) and my mom wants me to go to haverford which is ridiculous lol.

oh by the way what happened to your friend in temple? my friend is thinking about that school so i was wondering.

yeah my parents are paying for my sister's schooling too
i only choose for them not to pay for any more of my schooling bc i wanna be independent and do it on my own so they cant hold shit above my head (they have a bad habit of doing it)

one of my old best friends goes to haverford .. she LOVES IT but its so expensive.. its in a really good area though.
my friend sara goes to UPenn. she lovessssss it.. i cant believe its $38,500 a year! thats nuts. she got a scholarship though which is why shes going. and ur so right about the ivy league thing. bc sara is a huge pothead and i went down there to visit her and the parties are CRAZY and you can basically get whatever drug you want.

a couple of my friends got jumped at temple.. the kids that go to the school are good but its in such a shitty part of philly, and the ghetto people in that area know that a lot of the temple kids have money. id definitely recommend that your friend goes to the school and visits it first. bc i had my heart set on that school til i went there with my parents and as soon as they saw how ghetto the area was they said no way LOL
