Woo-hoo! Congratulations to Barry Bonds, who just hit home run number 756, putting him alone as the player with the most home runs of all time in Major League Baseball history. He also hit a double and a single, going 3 for 3 before leaving the game at the top of the sixth inning.
Now, before all you haters gripe about Bonds being on "The Clear" (wouldn't surprise me if he was) or what an ass he is in real life (doesn't surprise me), just understand that Bonds is one of the greatest, if not the best player of all time. Steroids may increase a person's strength, but it doesn't make a person a better baseball player.
Consider all of his accomplishments:
- He's the only player ever to amass more than 500 homers and 500 steals (514).
- He has the all-time record for walks (2,540) and intentional walks (679). Those are INSANE numbers.
- 71 multi-homer games are second only to Ruth, who had 72. 19 times he has hit 20 or more homers in a season
- 7-time NL MVP, the most by any single player in baseball history
- 14-time All-Star
- The most home runs in a single season, with 73 hit in 2001
- 8 Golden Gloves. He's not just a slugger, but a hell of a fielder, as well
- Bonds is coming up on the 2,000-RBI and 3,000-hit mark
- HE'S ALMOST 43 FREAKIN' YEARS OLD! How many old farts do you see playing any sport that well?
It's one thing if you're not a fan of baseball. I just don't want any haters to jump out acting like asses because they don't like Bonds.
Also of note, pitcher Barry Zito hit his first RBI of his entire career.
Congrats to the Barry's!
