All in all, this has been a pretty good weekend.
Usually, my weekends are bland and unmemorable, but thankfully, I actually did stuff over these last few days.
Friday I met up with
dctheif113 for the first time in months. We got some grub, spent a few minutes looking through this small (totally over-priced) anime shop downtown, as well as more than a minute or two looking through my own personal collection, before going to her place to watch some Millennium Actress and try out some multiplayer Guitar Hero. While there, I found out a few things: Satoshi Kon is a bit more than
dctheif113's brain can handle at one time, and it takes more pinky dexterity than I realized to play Guitar Hero. I just assumed
kira_ flatout sucked, but it appears there's more than one person who hasn't yet been able to pass through Expert mode. On a side note, there's still another four months until GH2 comes out. Screw the PS3, I'm getting me another Guitar Hero game.
Yesterday was the one-year memorial for my late grandmother, and so there was a short service (that I wasn't able to attend, because of work) followed by lunch at this local place. Lunch was at this really small Japanese restaurant that I had seen and walked by all my life, but never stopped to look inside. I was surprised how nice it actually looked, especially compared to the outside and the surrounding neighborhood. The food wasn't the best ever, but it was definitely satisfying, and I can now see how a little shop like that, which I just assumed wasn't anything special, has managed to stay in business (and packed, given the few hours it's open each day) all these years. Lunch wasn't the good part, though. After freakin' roasting in my room for a few hours (the heat, I don't mind at all, and it hasn't been -that- hot, but the hummidity has been driving me nuts!) I went to the Giants game. I guess I've been spoiled with the good seats I've been getting recently, so I was kinda dissapointed when I heard we got bleacher seats again, but these were only four rows back from the field, just to the left of center field.
Here's a tip if you ever get a chance to go to AT&T Park: the bleacher seats aren't very comfortable, and it's crazy loud with all the "energetic" fans sitting there, but they're waaaay cheaper than the rest of the seats, and all the best food is located near the bleachers. There are only two places to get their world-famous garlic fries, and the one under the bleachers is by far the easiest and quickest to get to, not to mention Orlando Cepeda's own Chacha Bowl, which was actually featured on the Food Network. And don't even get me started on Ghirardelli ice cream sundaes and hot chocolate... they're sooo good, but also very rich. And pricy. Never buy sodas in the park if you can avoid it, especially since there's a Safeways half a block away. The only thing left that I want to try but haven't yet is the fry bread. There's a little cart under the bleachers, and supposidly if you give the guy your seat number, he'll actually deliver your order to you. Fry bread is like a Native American version of funnel cake, and that guy is supposed to have some really good treats.
As far as the game went, I've been dissapointed in Schmit's pitching lately, but he managed to get the win last night, which put the Giants in first place, a half game ahead of the Padres, who they played this weekend in a four game series. The game wasn't the most exciting, with all the good offensive plays coming from the first half, and almost no offense from either team in the last half. The crowd kept things interesting, though. And, unfortunately, we lost todays game in the 12th inning, but that means we back to just a half game behind first place. If the Padres lose tomorrow, we'll be tied, since the Giants have an off day.
Today was pretty quiet, spending another morning sweating in my bed, listening to the Giants struggle to keep pace, since I didn't actually get up until about four in the afternoon. I just got back an hour or two ago from the movies; I went with my cousin and his wife to go see Clerks 2, which I believe is the first movie I've seen in the theater since Jarhead came out. Let me just say that Clerks 2 was fucking AWESOME. It was so hilarious, and I rarely laugh out loud at the movies. There's so much to say about it, it's easier if you just went out and see it for yourself. Trust me, if you like Kevin Smith and his works, you'll love this sequel to Clerks. You certanly don't have to have seen the first movie to understand this one, but you definitely will miss out on a few details otherwise. I still have to see Chasing Amy, and I'd like to get Mall Rats on DVD, since all the movies in the Jay and Silent Bob/View Askewniverse rock HARD. If you enjoyed any of the other movies, you'll love this one. If you're sensative to blasphamous lines, drug and sexual references, and profanity (crap loads, seriously, of each, but more so with the language), then really, you shouldn't even know who Kevin Smith is.
And, on a final note, shame on you if your name came up at the end of the movie. MySpace sucks ass, never mind that I spent seven minutes just sitting there looking at the list, since I knew I wouldn't recognize anybody's name, assuming I'd even be able to catch a particular one out of the massive list. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go back and see the movie again, and don't leave when the movie ends. There's really no point to it, though, other than to say "I saw it." Plus, the special thanks section of the credits was a blast to read, too.
