breast Cancer 3 Day Walk

Feb 13, 2009 08:22

i know a lot of you also followed crevette's and telaryn's amazing training and event journey for the walk back in 2006. i still wish Boston would change their date for this even from smack in the middle of July so i could think about participating myself. in the meantime, i'm supporting and promoting everyone i know who decides to take part in this, because thanks to crevette's tales, i know what incredible dedication and sacrifice it takes to do this. (though not all participants feel the need to be run over by elderly guys on tricycles.)

it also takes a hell of a lot of money to even be eligible to participate in this, which can be a really daunting task. in this vein, i'm asking all of you who feel as i do, and believe in the courage and strength and sacrifice of those walking to make a difference, please support my co-worker who is planning on taking part in this year's San Francisco event. John's letter is as follows:

Hello everyone.

I have never done like this before, and still am not sure why I signed up, though I am glad that I did. Part of it is probably because my father’s wife is recovering from breast cancer. I know that I personally can only make a small donation (and already paid a $90 registration fee), but by doing this I can do much more.

I have signed up to walk in the San Francisco Bay Area 3-Day walk starting on October 2 and ending on October 4. The purpose of the walk is to help fight breast cancer. The walk is a 60 mile walk, 20 miles each day.

The organization that sponsors this walk requires that I raise a minimum of $2,300 in advance, otherwise I can’t walk. Please donate what you can, but don’t break your bank account.

I promise that I will walk all 60 miles, even if I have to crawl the last few miles... My determination will get me through it, and knowing that I am doing something that I can’t do on my own.

Thanking you for your support in advance,
Your friend and co-worker
John Makarevich

i've known too many women in my life in the past few years who have faced breast cancer, all of them too damn young. this is one hell of an organization, and one sure way to help fight and find a cure.

please, even small amount will make a difference, and i want to see John be able to reach his goal on this. pass it on to friends, link away. whatever we need to do to help rally to the cause.
