Background:
Louise was born as the daughter of a baron that had relations to the royal family of Bern. As a youth she proved to be a little tomboy, preferring to practice with her bow instead of indulging in activities that most other girls her age enjoyed. Her father quickly saw that she had a natural talent with the bow, and he encouraged her to continue to hone her skill, especially because she truly seemed to enjoy it. Her youth passed fairly uneventfully, but happily, as she continued to get better with her bow and grow into a confident, kind young lady.
At age 14, Louise met Pent. She had gathered among 20 other women to try and catch his eye, and each of the other ladies was refined and elegant, seemingly the perfect candidates to marry a Count. Pent wouldn't see any of the ladies until they had demonstrated a particular thing that they were skilled in, and Louise watched in dismay as each one excelled in the various arts of singing, dancing, and other talents that showed their nobility and grace as highborn woman. When it came time for Louise's turn, she simply told him that her skill lied with the bow, and that if he were to choose her for his wife, she would protect him for the rest of his life. As everyone else laughed and sneered at her, Pent smiled at her with kindness, and told her that he had never met a girl with a clearer heart. He took her hand in his, and they were married soon after.
Louise then began to be taught the ways of court, and soon she became just as graceful and elegant as her competition had been. Her joy at this was diminished by her inability to conceive. Louise dearly wanted to have children, and not being able to carry a baby hit her hard. During this time Pent was promoted to Mage-General, and they became Marquess and Marchioness Reglay, respectively.
The years passed by relatively uneventfully, but Louise was happy, aside from her inability to have children. Pent loved her dearly, and she returned that love with all her heart. When she was 26, Pent arrived home from a mission with a young purple-haired boy, declaring him his student. She was beyond thrilled to have a child to take care of, and she instantly because a surrogate mother for the quiet, withdrawn boy. The boy, named Erk, was a recluse and more often than not could be found hidden away in his room, studying. His seclusion and intense studying eventually caught up with him, and he collapsed at his desk one day. The healers that came to treat him were very dismissive and uncaring, since Erk wasn't a noble - just a commoner that Pent had picked up and brought home. Louise was the one that took care of him and nursed him back to health, and their relationship was strengthened.
Eventually, Pent heard about an organization called the Black Fang, a group of assassins. He hired Fiora, a Pegasus Knight, to investigate the group for him. At the same time, Erk left on a sabbatical to improve his magical abilities. A year passed while Louise adjusted to life with him gone, trying not to miss him too much. For one as motherly as she is, being without the boy she had come to love as her son was difficult indeed. A year passed before he returned only to leave again shortly after, taking a contract from Pent to escort and protect a young troubadour named Priscilla.
A few months pass, and Bern's successor is having a coming-of-age ceremony. Claiming to have enough time before the ceremony, Pent heads to the Nabata desert to search for a magical artifact, bringing Louise with him. There, they run into the Archsage Athos, Pent's magic teacher. Shortly after, Eliwood and his friends arrive in search of Athos and information on how to defeat Nergal. He tells them to seek out the Shrine of Seals. Pent and Louise join his group and they're all warped to Pherae by Athos's magic. When the group reaches Bern, Pent and Louise leave them briefly to have an audience with Queen Hellene, a distant relation of Louise's. While there, they try to get a general location on the Shrine of Seals from her. However Hellene was grieving over the loss of the Fire Emblem. She was obsessed with her son's succession, but with the Fire Emblem stolen, the ceremony could not take place.
Outside the royal palace, they are attacked by Vaida and several Wyvern Riders. Using her skill with the bow to her advantage, Louise manages to take many of them down. Vaida escapes and the party continues on into the mountains in search of the missing Fire Emblem. There they attack the Black Fang's base and take down Kenneth, a priest working for them. Karel, a wandering swordsman, joins up with them and they head back to the royal palace. There, they manage to save the young crown prince from an assassination attempt and gain two new allies, Jaffar and Nino, both who were former members of Black Fang. While they retrieved the Fire Emblem, Hector chastises Hellene for being so focused on power and succession. The group leaves after angering the Queen, but Hellene gives them the location to the Shrine of Seals anyway, for saving her son.
That night, Nino confronts Sonia, the woman she believed was her mother and a powerful ally of the Black Fang, for the truth about who her parents really are. Sonia kills Brendan Reed and Nino finds out that Sonia isn't really her mother. Everyone saves Nino from her otherwise untimely demise and defeats Sonia. They move on to the Shrine of Seals, but are stopped by Linus, another member of Black Fang and one of Nino's brothers. Vaida arrives and joins the party since her loyalty was to the crown prince and not Black Fang at all. Pent and Louise have a conversation about the Shrine, and Louise once again tells Pent that she was content to simply follow and be with him, even if it meant staying with Eliwood's group for longer than they had originally planned.
Athos warps in and the group meets with Bramimond, who unseals all the legendary weapons. Nergal appears and kidnaps Ninian. Eliwood takes up Durandal, Hector takes up Armads and Lyndis takes up Sol Katti. Ninian, in dragon form, escapes and attempts to return to Eliwood, who mistakenly slays her. Athos tells them all the story of himself and Nergal, and how Nergal came to be twisted by his desire for more power. Ostia, Hector's kingdom, is attacked and the group fends them off.
They fight off the morphs Nergal created of himself and Limstella, and continue on to face Nergal himself. He uses his power to call up morphs of the powerful foes Eliwood and the others had faced along the way, and after defeating the morphs, they finally face Nergal head-on. He is defeated, but before he dies he uses the last of his power to call forth dragons from their world. Ninian is revived via Bramimond's powers and she manages to appease two of the three dragons, returning them to their home through the Dragon's Gate. The group fights the remaining dragon, killing it after a long struggle. During the battle, Louise reveals to Pent that she is pregnant with his child. Athos collapses from exhaustion and passes away, and Pent takes over the Archsage's research. In order to focus on his studies, Pent resigns as Mage-General, sending the palace into an uproar. Pent and Louise didn't seem to mind, however, and they continued to live together in happiness. Their son, Klein, was born a few months later.
Personality:
Kind and caring, Louise is a woman of strong will and a gentle heart. She never strays from what she feels is right, even in the face of danger or mockery. When it was her turn to attract Pent's attention, instead of trying to appear like the other highborn ladies, she calmly and clearly stated what her skill was, and revealed her undying devotion for anyone she became close to. Indeed, it was that clear heart and strong will that impressed Pent and caused him to take her as his wife.
Louise is motherly to anyone and everyone, always caring and protective. When she first thought she couldn't bear children, it crushed her. The day that Pent arrived with a twelve-year-old Erk, she immediately took to the boy and it didn't take long for her to think of him as her own son, regardless of his common heritage and the fact that she hadn't actually given birth to him. Her kindness and perseverance in the face of Erk's aloof personality eventually won him over to her, much to her delight.
Louise is a woman who is very full of love for all those around her, even if she barely knows them. She demonstrates this in her worry for Athos when he left the group for a bit, concerned that he wouldn't be eating properly since she was no longer around to prepare his meals for him. Rebecca, a young archer, also brought out her kindness when she asked Louise to teach her how to be a proper lady, and she told the young woman about her first encounter with Pent and how she managed to win his heart over all the other high-class ladies. She told Rebecca to be less concerned with being a "proper" lady and instead remain true to herself, and show those around her her true heart.
She can be formal, addressing those around her as "lord" and "lady", but in return she prefers to simply be called by her first name. If someone asks her to drop the titles and be less formal, she will gladly agree, as long as they return the favor. This never diminishes her polite behavior, however.
Her skill with her bow is very important to her, and she takes great pride in it. She never flinches from battle, even if she's afraid, and bravely stands up to protect her loved ones and companions.
