English Books:

This semester they've been surprisingly interesting.  I'm taking my Comp 2 class, and the teacher I got is awesome.  She decided to make a themed course instead of just random article-reading.  Our books this semester focus on various coming of age tales.  The first one we read was a warm, bright, fuzzy sort of tale called Dandelion Wine, by Ray Bradbury.  I loved it.  Young Douglas' tale of the acceptance of mortality and making the decision to live was a beautiful tale, one I highly recommend, especially if you are only familiar with his book Fahrenheit 451--so vastly different it's astounding!

Our second tale was Annie John by Jamaica Kincaid.  This one I'm not as fond of.  Annie John--at least to me--was brash, rude, and a total bitch.  I really detested her by the end of that book.  Still, interesting story if you have an afternoon to waste.

The book we're on now is Jeffery Eugenides' famous story The Virgin Suicides.  I've watched the movie years ago and in a strange way, found it vastly interesting.  Trying to figure out what happens to cause such a wide-spread melancholy among the girls, watching the boys' affection grow for them even from a distance, really enthralled me in a way that I can't explain.  It sounds so morbid and terrible, but it's an amazing story.  I'm oddly excited to get to dissect this book--it's so psychological, an amateur examination of suicide in it's social state and implications.  I dunno--just one of those strange things.

Anyway, just had a random post pop into my head and had to share :P  Enjoy my random ramblings!
