On friends and phone calls

So today I was half-way asleep, watching M*A*S*H with Hubby when my cell phone rings.  I looked at the caller ID screen and was mightily confused by the appearance of Lawton, Oklahoma on the number.  I was trying to figure out who I knew in Lawton even as I answered.

Mightily surprised was I when one of my best friends was on the other end!  Steve, a friend close enough to be a brother, was calling me from down in Fort Sill, where he's currently undertaking the basic training program.  He and I have been trading letters for a while now, and he'd said that phones were in high demand down there, as was internet connection.

But he managed to grab a phone today--and despite the spotty connection (it would crackle every so often, or fade out), we enjoyed a conversation nearly an hour long as he told me more about all the things he's been learning and experiencing.  Lately they learned how to use grenades and some of the machine guns.  He told me he wanted to send me one of the grenade pins, but they wouldn't let the men take them off the firing range.  They were actually searching them for the pins!  Dang...oh well--I'm sure there's a good reason why :P

All in all it was an amazing time--I'm sure it'll lift his morale for a few days :)  It makes me thankful there is such technology in the world--to be able to hear his voice after so long was wonderful :D  I miss that boy!

From your thankful, blessed fuzzy,

Silver
