[IC Information]
Character Name: Ash
Series: Phantom Brave
Gender: Male
Age: 18 (Before death, Spiritually 26)
Species: Confined Phantom, Human
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: Ash would currently be a healthy twenty-six year old man if it weren't for the fact that he's been dead as a doorknob for quite some time now. Having died eight years ago, his appearance hasn't changed one bit. Perhaps the bitter look in his eyes has intensified over the years from watching over Marona and witnessing all the suffering she's had to gone through. None the less, he looks quite fresh as a daisy for someone so expired.

Offhand, most people will notice the strange contrast his pale skin makes against the large red muffler he wears around his neck. Standing at 5'7 feet and weighing roughly 114 pounds, Ash is a lightweight fighter with some serious style going on. His pale face is framed by his dark, spikey, blue hair. It peaks in the back and, while messily cropped, it keeps itself away from his face for the most part. As a phantom, his eyes are a dark, reddish color. They match rather well with his muffler.

His clothes! This young ghost knows how to cover from head to toe. If it were not for his phantomly state, Ash would certainly grow hot in the layers of clothing he wears on an island! Starting from the most basic, Ash wears black pants and a long sleeved shirt underneath his rather predominant yellow jacket. His jacket is sleeveless and rather large for his frame, it goes beyond his waist but it still provides swift flexibility for Ash to participate in hand to hand combat!

Other than his long yellow boots, the last articles of interest are Ash's wrists and ankles belt cuffs and his red muffler. When in battle or agitated, be sure to notice Ash fidgeting with those wrist cuffs. It's quite a predominant sign that he's annoyed or ready to beat someone up.

Finally, the large red muffler Ash wears around his neck is a key item. Though normal in appearance, it splits two at the ends. From there, the muffler's tassles seem to give the illusion of two giant ghostly hands on Ash's silhouette. Spooky.

Personality:

Ash can be described with many words, but the phrase "kicked puppy" seems to suit him best. He's had great difficulties in his life and consequent death. Unlike most people, peace did not come for this young man once he died. He was left with the responsibility of taking care of his best friend's daughter and making sure nothing bad happened to her like it did to them, gosh darn it.

Usually, Ash is quiet and pessimistic towards others. Even before he was a phantom, Ash always had some sort of interpersonal communication problem. If by the rare chance he breaks out of his shell and makes friends, he's excrutiatingly loyal and self-sacrificing for them. Even at the time of his impending death, he tried to be a shield for his friends to escape. He feels others have futures infront of them that they must accomplish, he will sacrifice whatever the means in order to make sure others come out alive, even at the cost of his existance.

When meeting new people, do expect him to be put-off and not trusting. He feels people are more often than not driven by greed and prejudice and would rather not deal with them if he had the chance to. When a good, honest person does cross his path, he feels hopeful for the future. He does want to believe there is good in this world, but the world has to prove to prove it first. Ash feels that people do not do good things for the sake of doing good, they do good things in order to survive in this world and make money. In the end, those who survive are those that succeed.

When he's with Marona is when Ash's personality truly shines. He's an amazing older brother to this young girl, he will make sure she has a bed and warm food every night, he'll read to her, keep her company, and make sure no one causes her trouble. At times, this can be a serious flaw and irritation, he can be overly smothering and worrisome. When Marona does something that he doesn't approve of, he won't think twice to yell at her or call her out on it. If it does get to the point that he does snap at her, Ash will usually feel guilty about it later and try to make it up to her. Marona is a source of great joy to him, but some of the things she does can frustrate her guardian. This isn't to say that Ash doesn't have a playful side, he'll counter Marona's silliness with a tease or a joke. Nothing's more important than making sure Marona's happy... and her parents in Heaven are happy as well. He truly sees her as family and would sacrifice anything for her.

Though he's mellowed out in terms of anger issues over the years, Ash can become aggressive and angry if Marona's threatened. He only lets his guard down for her, if there's something that might harm Marona he will not hesitate to order her to stand back. He has learned to keep is cool in situations, the frenzy of battle means nothing if he can't keep the most precious thing in his life out of harm.

Oddly enough, with his chronological age, he doesn't act very mature at certain times. Usually, even if Ash is put off by strangers, he is not outright hostile towards them. In fact, he's very polite and soft-spoken. At times, he even acts like a little kid, it's not above him to stay away from petty squabbles with Marona. He even gets a smidge jealous if Marona compares him to someone else.

For the most part, Ash is a very introspective person who only wishes to be with Marona and protect her. His laughter, though rare, might be heard when he occasionally teases Marona about her girlish traits.

Abilities: Ash is a phantom, but he's also a chroma. Chromas live in the world of Ivoire as Jack-of-All-Trades. They're hired workers that help find people, hunt monsters, investigate areas on different islands, and pretty much do whatever labor work that higher class citizens can not be bothered to deal with. They are considered to be almost the poor class, the only class below them are the thieves and homeless.

Though their reputation at first is bad, chromas can scale up the social ladder if they gain the trust and good word of noble clients or royalty. Ash's life has always dealt in chroma work, it's what his parents did, it's what he does, and it's what Marona does now. Because of it, he has grown swift and strong. He's a combat ready young man, he's able to use swords, spears, and hand to hand combat. He might not be very good at magic, but he does seem skillful in burst magic, the ability to fuse weapons and magic together. Though, his lack of a physical body is a great disability to him. He can not fight without Marona around to 'confine' him. When confined, Ash takes the 'physical' place of an object on their world. The object remains in the spirit world for a set amount of time while Ash is 'revived'. For these brief hours, Ash can breathe and act like a normal every day human... but at the cost of Marona's energy and magic. Usually, he will stay in phantom state and talk to Marona, unless he is needed in battle. If Ash were to just talk to a human that isn't Marona, he would need to be near Marona in order to appear infront of others. Demons and those who can talk to the dead are not limited to this, they can see him and hear him if they wish.

Normally, if Ash is away from Marona, he can not appear on his own free will or be heard. Marona acts like a catalyst for Ash to have contact with the living world. In reality, they truly depend on each other to coexist. In Manhattan, I've changed that a bit so you can see down below how his abilities and existance are slightly tweaked.

Because of their close bond, Ash's 'chroma skill', Water Dragon's Strength -- Eccarlate has a special ability called Solemn Vow, it's a reflection of his need to protect Marona. As a battle wears on, he will gain a burst of strength towards the end of his physical 'confinement' period. Hopefully, with that last burst of strength, he will be able to take down a foe before it sees Marona as it's next meal.

Manhattan --> Daisychain
Technically, as we've discussed--! ... Ash is a phanto!. Marona has the special ability to confine phantoms to objects in order to breath "life" into them temporarily, so they can fight for her. They can be "killed", injured, and interact with the world around them when they are 'confined'. Ash will have a permanent confinement on Manhattan. He can be physically attacked, injured, or killed. Since he's a phantom in confinement, any damage to him is usually damaging to the soul as well.(... in honesty he doesn't have a body of his own anymore) Uhh, how he's 'weakened' here in Daisychain will just be that he's like any other normal human. He has next to no chroma powers (the special, innate powers of chromas in Ivoire, their world), he'll just be as strong as a boy his age that knows a bit of martial arts and is good with swords! All for the sake of Marona, naturally!

To make things clear, when Ash is confined, he's basically brought into the physical realm. To put it bluntly, he's alive. I'm just going to go with the fact that he is just frickin' alive because confinement is never fully explained and no matter how much I read the novel, manga, replay the game in English and Japanese and ask other people, it'll never change that it's sort of ambiguous. He takes a breath in the novel, that must mean he's sorta alive right?!?

HE'S ALIVE IN MANHATTAN THERE. D:

Weaknesses: Marona. Without her, he really doesn't stand out much in the crowd, and he likes it that way. Ash also has a guilty personality for the most part, he tends to at times feel that things are the way they are because of his faults, and he has no self-preservation skills. He'll run in head on if it means protecting Marona at any cost. He won't flinch to steal if it's needed for Marona's safety, but he'd have to do it in private to not get any suspicions from her.

He is a normal human boy at Manhattan. Very few special abilities. Chroma skills are almost completely locked.

Manhattanite or outsider? O-O-Outsider.

History:

Once upon a time, there was a young boy. He was a happy young boy, he lived with his mother and father, (both chromas in their time) in a small house on a large island. It wasn't a bad life, Ash would get fed and his mother would clean the house and cook in her adorable bunny pajamas. Life was good for this five year old boy, it was a shame it wouldn't last for him.For you see, Ash admired his father, and on days he would come home after long jobs Ash would sit with him and talk to him. His eyes would shine and his face would be bright as ever as he told his dad that he wanted to grow up to be just like him. To be just like his father, a hero that went out of his way to help people.

His father, that day, corrected him. He did not go out to help people and be a hero, he went out so there could be food on the table and they could survive in this world. He was not a hero, money was all that mattered in this world.

Ash would not forget that anytime soon.

Soon after those words were spoken, his father was never to be seen again. On the way from a job, his father was caught in a storm and drowned with his family's bottleship. Ash's mother, distraught by the death of her husband, pondered what they were going to do from now on. Her son was still young... she could always return to being a chroma, but that meant she had to leave him alone.

Because of the social status of chromas, she had no choice but to continue her old line of work. Ash's mother, a petite woman she was, did not look like much of a fighter, but she had to bring home food for them to eat.

Soon after, she was never heard from again. Killed by a dragon, some say.

This left Ash alone, a mere boy of five years old. He would later be taken in by a businesshog who saw chromas as trash. His lineage of chromas would haunt him, he would never amount to be anything better in life and throughout his youth he would be reminded of this. Ash was a hard worker as a kid, he would do his work and not cry about it. He wouldn't fight, he knew he would have his chance one he gained the chroma ability that each and every chroma possessed when they came to age. It was this magnificent power that scared people away from chromas. The ability to have something that the other classes didn't have... it was potentially dangerous. Moving on, at the age of twelve Ash finally received this power. It's handed paternally from father to child at a certain age. Once he had learned his father's skill, (Water Dragon's Strength - Eccarlate ) he ran away from his owners and left the island he had lived his whole life on. He would never return to see it again in his life.

Too bad he didn't really live very long after that, huh?

So, as time went on, Ash took on odd jobs here and there in order to survive. He had nurtured a reputation by then, and at the age of fifteen another great milestone in his life would come at him so swift and so unexpected that he really had no idea how to react to it.

He made friends.

Not just any friends, let me tell you! These were two adults that had risked their lives to save hiim from monsters that were waiting to chew him up into little bits and pieces. He was grateful for them, but he was also stand-offish of them. He wanted nothing to do with them, but when they invited him over he had no idea what to do.

Those two adults were Haze and Jasmine, Marona's parents. Little did Ash know that after so many years of fighting and trying to survive in Ivoire would he finally find a home. He would finally feel that sense of family he had lost so long ago. It wouldn't last very long, but those final three years of Ash's life as a chroma, an older brother, and a family member, were probably the most fulfilling of all. He even fell in love with the first and only person he would love, too bad she was already married and had a kid. Though he could not express his feelings for Marona's mother, he sure did angst about it in his sleep.

When Ash's tender heart finally healed, he knew he had to move on. He loved his family, he loved playing with Marona, he loved being with Haze and Jasmine... but he wanted to stand out on his own. He wanted to become a knight one day like the great Raphael, and he wasn't going to stop his dream. He would become a hero unlike his dad. He knew it.

...Again, too bad that declaration of heroism came a day before he was mauled alive on the Island of Evil. So! There they were, Haze, Ash, and Jasmine together on one final job. This would be the last job Haze would have ever taken, it would have paid off the island they were planning on buying so Jasmine and Marona can live happily and peacefully without worrying about taking on anymore jobs. It would pay for Marona's future and give them all a carefree life of retirement if they so desired it.

Too bad, like I said, it was the worst possible job for them to take.
So, on this special island called "The Island of Evil", the three young adults met their end. They had gone to find missing travelers that mysteriously vanished without a trace. (Like that didn't tell you something) Surely, by them going, they would find them and make it back in one piece! ...Instead, they were eaten alive by a horrific monster that Ash had never seen before. It's presence caused great fear and terror in our heroes, but Ash wanted his friends to escape. Even if it meant he would not make it back, surely his sacrifice--!

It's a shame, really, even with all his efforts Ash's friends never made it back alive. They were killed in the same blast he was killed in. Haze, it seems, managed to survive for a few moments after Ash and Jasmine ahd perished. He used the last bits of his energy to try and save his friend, being a master healer and all Haze should have no problem with this! Of course, the spell backfired and while it restored Ash's spiritual state, his physical state was far too damage to repair. And so, that begins Ash's wonderful adventures of being a phantom. After the initial shock of, you know, being half dead, Ash searched the world to find Marona and watch over her. She would be sent to an orphanage for her early years, at this point of her life Marona could not see or feel Ash. Ash had no way of communicating with her, so he would just watch her and make sure she was doing okay. He was useless to her, but maybe if he stayed close to her...

As the years went by, Marona finally gained the chroma ability she received from her father. It would allow her to cast great healing abilities and to be able to speak to phantoms. From there on, Ash and Marona struggled to survive in the world much like their parents did. They took on jobs after jobs, but with the mounting prejudice that Marona had due to being called "The Possessed One", people underpaid her and made her struggling increase tenfolds. As time went on, people began to see that Marona was not an evil person who was possessed by phantoms. As people began to like her and give her prosperity, Ash hoped for a brighter future for her. Through the course of their jobs, Ash was able to find the monster that killed Marona's parents and himself. With the help of Marona's phantoms and his own determination, they were able to kill the wraith that had plagued Ash.

Too bad that was only the beginning of their problems! Marona had found the friendships she was looking for, Ash found his path to seeking revenge, too bad it only opened up a can of worms for bigger and nastier monsters! The wraith that had killed Ash was only a segment of a much larger monster, one that would terrorize their whole world. From here on out, Marona wants to protect the people that are around her and those in her world. She will fight Sulphur, the great terror, with the help of her friends and her phantoms.

And that is where we leave off our plucky heroes.

First-person POV journal sample:

Just when things were going well, it seems like it was too much to ask for Marona and I to just stay home and enjoy the rest of her days. This doesn't look like Ivoire at all, nor does it look like the Netherworld we once saw. This- ...

This really can't be good.
Marona, how are you doing? Don't leave my side, we might really be in trouble now, this place looks like a warzone...

Third-person POV rp sample:

He waited outside of the room, she had been gone for a few minutes. Arms folded, he leaned against the wall next to the door while waiting for Marona to come out. Ash had to hand it to her, she was definitely a girly girl, when she took a bath or got new clothes, she would take her time to make sure everything was right. Ash didn't mind, of course. Marona meant a lot to him, he just grew a bit uneasy every moment he didn't have her in his sight.

He is a boy, though. Boys have to be gentlemen, even when potential crab attacks could be involved. It was only a few minutes, there was no way she could possibly get into trouble in that time.

Ash sighed.
That's right, he was dealing with Marona. Although their luck had changed in the past months, it suddenly took a nosedive with their appearance in ... Manhatter?

Manhatser?

Whatever it was, this world was seriously screwed. On the bright side, Marona didn't have to worry too much about her powers being a problem here, on the down side, their chroma abilities were certainly hampered by their stay here. It annoyed Ash.

It annoyed him a lot.

"There you are," he spoke up, taking a look at Marona as she showed off her dress, "It looks good! Is it a keeper?"

Even with everything involved, Ash had to look at the bright side.
At the very least, they were still together.
That's all that counts.

Smile for the camera…
