Gin Summit!

Jan 05, 2004 17:51

Finally, I'll get my lazy arse in gear and update. I've been using every excuse of late XD

I made it home, evidently. No, I take that back, I didn't. A fake Erica is writing this right now. She's taken over my life and I'm still in North Dakota, buried under a snow drift. It's cold in here. */sarcasm*

The trip home was uneventful. I calculated that, if I've gone to North Dakota twice a year (once for Christmas: 2 weeks and once in the summer: 2 months) and I've gone every year since I've been born, I have now traveled to North Dakota 32 times, give or take. Thirty of those times, we have traveled pretty much the same route--through Indiana, Illinios, Wisconsin, Minnesota--from Ohio. I've also calculated that, given I've traveled there faithfully every Christmas (mostly) and we've owned the farm since 1996 and we spend at least 2 months there annually, I have lived a total of 2 years and 4 months in North Dakota, give or take again because sometimes we spend longer summers there, go there in the fall, spring break ect.

Yes, that's right, I did math for fun. I think I need to have my fever checked.

...No, literally I do need it checked. Jody got me sick :p You know, the only good thing about being sick when you travel is that people don't steal your water bottle. Bad side of this good thing: many bathroom breaks.

The highlight of the return trip is obvious--I got to see Gin! It was completely impromptu. I was sitting in the pickup, listening happily to my CD player and trying to keep my nasal passages open, when I saw a sign saying "Bloomington 96 miles" and I thought "Gee golly gosh, Gin lives in Bloomington!" and I said this to my father who said "Do you have her number?" Which I didn't, but I had Carolyn's number and Car looked Gin's number up for me on Switchboard even though I freaked her out by the sudden request XD Hey, the cell phone was in roaming--time was expensive!

I called the Gin and the phone rang and rang and my heart sank but I left a message on the answering machine and hoped she'd call back or something. Waited a while. Cell phone emerged from roaming area and Dad let me try calling again because it was a weekend and it was free! And then, lo and behold, the Gin picked up! Her parents weren't home but Al was and after a few calls back and forth and some confusion due to my parents talking to me *while I'm on the phone* we finally got things straightened out and decided to meet at Culver's.

I looked terrible. Seriously. I'd been traveling all day. I was sick. I was wearing some crappy sweatshirt and, apparently,I had a blueberry seed in my teeth. A very small seed, Gin claims, but nonetheless, it existed. I was not looking charming that day. But I got to meet Gin and Al! We talked for about, I don't know, 45 minutes or so about [stuff]. Mostly, I suppose, we talked about Fidgers behind their backs *innocent giggle* No, I kid, we didn't say anything that we haven't told you ourselves XD It was fun. Conversation rolled along pretty easily and Gin is Gin in person as much as she is on MAN. My dad commented after we left that she seemed very mature. Both my parents think Gin and Al are "nice girls". Fidgers charm parents oh so well XD We're such suck ups XD

Dad took pictures but they're horrific. Seriously, completely, incredibly horrific. *shudder* I would sneak a peek for you, but they really are terrible. Maybe after we have some time to recover, we'll let you see them but not now XD

Anyway, it was great seeing Gin in her natural habitat and I'd love to see her again at say, oh, The Big Fidge Summit or sooner and NEXT TIME I won't have a blueberry seed in my teeth XD
