I should learn to keep my opinions to myself

okay so its time for a funny story...actually it wasnt that funny when it happened but i'm sure you'll all get enjoyment out of my embarrasment.
Soooo, today at work it was completely dead so I was reading a new book i got this weekend. Its called "The Best in American Poetry" and its the 2002 edition, so i figure, awesome, this will be right up my ally. I've glanced through some of the other editions and was really impressed so i figured this one would be good. Anyway, it turns out i was wrong and its actually pretty dissapointing and while i was reading it, one of my coworkers asked me how it was and, of course, being the opinionated person that i am, i told him that it sucked and it was a really poor complilation of poems. Just as i finish sayign this, one of our customers who had been standing near us waiting for his son to come out of the bathroom, turns to me and says, "You might be interested to know that I was actually one of the editors who contributed to the poem selection in that anthology. A team of renown poetry scholars spent almost two years raking over all of the latest poetry to bring you that book."
yea, so it turns out that he was this really well known poetry professor and writer from yale who decided to take his kids for a nice night at the great escape and i had just made a big huge ass of myself. I felt soooooo stupid and there really was no saving myself after that but he turned out to be a very nice, down-to-earth guy and we had a discussion about what i felt was missing from the set of poetry. Even though i felt like i was completly talking out of my ass, he acknowledged the fact that it was a little lacking on feminist writings and completely devoid of any of the wonderful nature poetry that has becoem popular as of late.
So yea, that was not a pleasant experience but of course everyone at work thought it was hilarious and now call me big-mouth....greeeaaat....lol
