When cards get sent around the office, it's usually for good reason - a birthday, retirement, birth, marriage, etc... however, the one that ended up on my desk yesterday was truly unique. It was for one of the girls here who is leaving for 2 weeks to go on vacation in Europe... a "bon voyage" card, of you will. WTF! Normally, some apathetic sentiment flows from my fingertips and manifests itself in ink without effort, but this one stumped me. So I wrote "Are you swimming there? Watch out for sharks!" and I crudely drew some waves with a shark fin. *shrugs*
This reminded and inspired me at the same time. A while back, my friend Sara and I joked about making exuberant priced "greeting" cards for random occasions with scathing remarks in it. The gears were turning in my head last night with some input and confidence from another friend. Since writing haiku and being a complete bitch come naturally to me, the possibility of creating a website/business making such cards and selling them seemed exciting, lucrative and plausible. "FU Haiku - because apathy is an option"... I like card crafting and what's out there currently is at best stale.
A friend of mine who is getting a divorce as a result of catching his wife with another guy gave me the opportunity to write the following haiku for him:
she cheated on you
your wife is a stupid whore
and so is her mom
This begs the question: WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO BUY A CARD WITH THAT AND GIVE IT TO THEIR FRIEND?! Each card would be unique and handmade. I would gleefully recruit Monique or Jason to help with artwork since I am not as talented in that aspect. And of course, I would need a website, too. Perhaps I should ask them first?
