Doctors, Nurses, radiographers, scientists, technicians are all very important in the NHS, but so are the admin and clerical people. Most of us A&C people work our arses off (and many of us work overtime and do not get paid for it). Without us, the NHS will crumble-staff would not get paid, patient-facing staff have to waste valuable time doing

Well most critisism is not aimed at underpaid staff in admin, its the mangers and administration consultants (not to be confused with surgical consultants) who are paid absurd amounts of money (justifying it on the grounds that people in other sectors are paid even more) for less than a normal working week. The ones you never meet who write stupid internal magazines wich say nothing who you cant get to sort out any mess even when you memo them the entire account history and what they need to do, as they are the only person with the ability to authorise a correction which would sort the problem, before the next month the customer yet again phones, the next person at your level tries to sort it finding the error you find, promises the same thing and gets the correction sent up, which again is not acted upon because those on a senior levels don't deal directly with accounts (that what they employ you to do, but don't realise data errors need a password as they have not been trained to use the system, having never dealt with customers, then not acting upon the memo leaving an ever more angry customer getting ever more annoyed with the company, with you having to lie to the customers that it will be sorted because you have passed it up to undertake the simple change and that the directors care about their custom and will contact them personally if their is a further problem. You of course know full well those with the higher authority lack the mental capacity to do anything right however you can't tell the customer that.
Its clearly aimed at those earning too much to justify their employment not people like you, the ones who if they were removed would be replaced by a service team to improve performance and not lead a small number of administartors snowed under and chasing their tales whilst senior management is on 3 hour lunches with senior managers from other departments and directors and I guess the situation is the same at hospitals as elswhere in the public service as it was in the University sectors when the Students Union sent me to a regular lunch meeting with the Deans including champagne and a 5 course meal. I was so tempted when they were talking about taking pride in the universities achievement and that more people should do the same that if they cared so much about the university why don't they go outside and pick up litter.
I made tounge in cheek comments about people not caring enough to make an effort above what is expected they agreed being too high up to realise that it was them that I was calling a bunh of lazy bums draining the budget.
I have shown people at senior levels how to use computers??, have told them exactly what would happen if I did what they said, system crash and damaged stock despite trying to explain in language they might understand what would happen. I have met very few who can cope with tasks 8 year olds can do, though one did once amaze me as despite being in his 50's he was not only literate, answered internal phones also was also IT literate, downloading and copying everything. I was not happy when I was called in about the stock damage and crash and they tried to blame me, I got away with it as the literate one was their senior and he liked me (in other ways too) and believed that I said that would happen to them and had been ignored. All they did was change the procedure manual, the warehouse supervisors having for a couple of years been telling everyoene its outdated and to ignore it, they had been sending the changes to the manuals to take into account the equipment changes up to senior levels but not being allowed to put them in the manual until they "got around" to reading it and saying it is ok.
It's because on that sort of money senior managers have no incentive to do anything at all, they are protected, are never sacked and always can just walk into another high paying job.
You should remember that despite the structure and the managers you do a stirling job everything that goes well is inspite of management leadership not because of it, you are not being called a waste of taxpayers money, its your higher level overpaid lazy obsolete underworking bosses who are. Grrr I hate Managers
