I dunno if you guys have heard about it in the news for my followers who aren't in Australia...but here in Queensland we have been struck by sudden floods.
When I say floods, I mean epic floods.
People in and around Brisbane have had their houses and businesses go under, about 20 people dead and many more injured or missing, flash flooding in some areas, two story houses almost entirely submerged, emergency evacuations...in fact much of Brisbane (which is Qld capital city) has been declared a disaster zone. Luckily I am not in Brisbane, I am living with my parents until I can afford to move to Melbourne, and we were not flooded at all here (yeah we got some torrential downpour but we were lucky). However most of the roads were cut off so there is a very limited supply of bread, milk, long life milk, fruit, vegetables and fuel here. But I consider that to be lucky, so many of my friends have lost their homes and belongings.
However something good seems to be coming out of all of this. People are banding together to help each other out. Thousands of volunteers are coming out to the effected areas from all over the country to help with the clean up, complete strangers helping out other complete strangers. At least that is one good thing about Australia, tragedies bring everyone together.
It is enough to touch even me and my complete cynicism about the human race :P
