“Now that, Donna, that is a wonder of ancient Earth. You lot were the only ones, well, almost only ones, well, I say almost… you were in a really small group that perfected the use of the catapult! One of the best siege weapons of the middle ages. Can’t say I like the war machine part, but just the idea behind it all, and the skill that was needed, that was worth a pat on the back. Of course, the inventor probably got killed like all the good ones did back then. Save the enemy the trouble of trying to kidnap him and take all the good little secrets out of him.
“Of course, catapult is really a generic term that covers whole bunches of machines that hurled things into the air. There were, oh, four different types? Well, if you don’t count…no, just four. Tension power, Torsion Power, Traction, and Gravity, that’s four, right? But, anyway, four ways to fling everything and anything at your opponent.
“You wouldn’t believe the stuff that they threw at them, Donna! Not just the boulders that you see in the movies or on the telly, no way, they were really creative in what all they chucked at you. There were rocks, iron arrows, baskets full of venomous snakes, corpses, infected corpses of plague victims, barrels of gooey stuff that was already burning, hornet’s nest, manure, you don’t like it, they flung it!
“Of course, this one is just for show, never had anything like that in the bucket, as it were. Replica of a replica of a catapult that won the grand prize at the World Championship Punkin Chunk outside Millsboro, Delaware in 2013. You could load a 12 pound pumpkin in here, just settle it all down in the middle right where I’m sitting, and one push of a level would have it hurtling across the field, or in this case, into that area of bouncy castle stuff off over there. Good range, too. Of course, the pumpkin would make it all the way to the far end. Something my size, of course, would land probably more in the middle. Yep, definitely right smack in the middle of that stuff. Probably why they have it there in the first place--”
“This lever, right here, Doctor?”
“Yep, that’s the - Donna!”
