It became a tradition when Ryan joined: every Monday, the trio would wear matching colors. The exact shade didn’t matter, as long as the general color was somewhere on them. None of them quite remembered how it started, but they’d been following the tradition for so long that it didn’t really matter.
In the beginning, Calleigh picked out the color and called both Ryan and Eric to inform them of her decision. Eventually, things changed and Eric and Ryan were no longer at each other’s throats, so Calleigh called Eric, who, in turn, called Ryan.
Not too long after that though, things changed again. Calleigh called Ryan, who rolled over in bed and told Eric after giving him a ‘good morning’ kiss. Then, as they so often do, things changed a final time, and Natalia started training to be a CSI. Calleigh would call Ryan, who told Eric, then called Natalia.
The catch was, since Ryan had never cared much for Natalia, he usually told her the wrong color - though later, he would swear it was an accident or that he had, in fact, told her the right color, and she just heard wrong.
This morning is different, though. Ryan has already decided to kindly tell Natalia the correct color. So, when Calleigh calls and tells him ‘pink,’ he grins (maybe a little evilly) and kisses Eric good-morning, then picks up the phone and dials Natalia’s number.
“Pink?” she asks skeptically after he relays the information.
“Yes, pink.”
When he hangs up, Eric grabs him around his waist and pulls him back down onto the bed, snuggling close. Ryan closes his eyes and smiles. He has come to love how affectionate Eric is in the morning.
“So what color did Calleigh really pick?” Eric mumbles against Ryan’s neck, sending shivers down his spine.
“Pink.”
“And you actually told Natalia the truth? I’m in shock,” Eric teases. “You’re just counting on the fact that she won’t believe you, aren’t you?”
Ryan rolls his eyes, but he’s grinning. “Can we please not talk about Natalia in bed?”
Eric chuckles, then kisses Ryan firmly on the lips. “We really need to get up.”
“You’re the one holding me down. Besides, I think I’d rather lay here all day with you.”
“You wouldn’t,” Eric points out. “You’d get up and go clean something, and when I’d try to get you to come back to bed, you’d tell me there are better things to do than lay around all day.”
Ryan laughs because he knows Eric is right. He can’t lie around for more than an hour without wanting to get up and do something. Looking at the alarm clock, he sighs. “You really do need to get up and go take your shower.”
Eric quirks an eyebrow. “What about you?”
“I have to be in court at nine, remember?”
“No, actually I didn’t. You know my brain doesn’t work properly this early.”
Ryan smiles. “Well, I’m reminding you now. I have to be in court at nine, and you have to be at work in forty-five minutes. Better get moving, babe.”
“Alright, alright. I’m getting up now.” He climbs over Ryan to get out of bed, then turns back to mock-glare at his grinning lover when a hand swats at his butt.
“What are you giving me that look for? I didn’t do anything.”
“Right. You’re completely innocent, as always.”
“Glad we agree.”
Thirty minutes later, Ryan’s getting dressed and Eric’s just about to leave for work. Glancing in the mirror, he sees Eric smirking slightly as he stares at Ryan’s butt.
“Checking out my ass again, Delko?” he teases, catching Eric off guard.
“All the time, Wolfe.” Suddenly he’s wrapped in Eric’s arms, the light pink of his shirt blending perfectly with the stripes on Eric’s. “I have to go,” Eric whispers, placing a feather-light kiss on Ryan’s jaw. “Are you going into work after court?”
“If it gets out in time,” Ryan replies. He turns to kiss Eric properly then mumbles “love you” against his lips.
“I love you, too. See you later.” With one last kiss, Eric’s gone, and Ryan smiles. He just has a feeling that today will be a good day.
