Ryan walked into the lab holding the evidence bag in one hand. “Hey, Eric.”
Eric looked up. “Hey. Got something for me?”
“Murder weapon,” Ryan replied with a grin.
“First guess as to who the murderer is?”
“Well, I was thinking Mrs. Atherton killed her, because she found out her husband was having an affair with her, but when I talked to their son, he said she was sleeping with the pool guy.”
“No wonder they’re getting a divorce; neither one of them knows what the definition of faithfulness is.” He paused for a second, then said, “Well, you know my parents are still happily married; what about yours?”
Ryan frowned. “I never told you about my crazy family?”
Giving him that lopsided grin Ryan had come to love, Eric answered, “Well, we don’t usually spend much time talking, do we?”
“Still… I’m surprised I never told you.” He took a deep breath. “They’re still married, unfortunately.”
“Unfortunately?”
Ryan laughed. “They would be doing the world a favor by getting a divorce, but of course, that’s why they’re still together. I get my temper and stubbornness from both of them. When they fight, they fight. They put us to shame. I should say, though, neither one of them has destroyed a boat, as far as I know, and I don’t think there’s been an affair yet. They just don’t like each other.” He sighed and handed Eric the evidence. “Well, I should probably get going. You have evidence to process, and I need to go check up with Natalia in DNA.”
“Alright, I’ll page you when I get something.” Just as Ryan turned to leave, Eric stopped him. “Hey, Ryan?”
“Yeah?”
“If we ever get that bad, I’ll make Calleigh perform an intervention.”
Ryan laughed again, shaking his head. “If we ever get that bad, Calleigh will just lock us in a room together until we work it out. We won’t have to actually make her do anything.”
