Had a jam packed weekend, sorry about the lack of commenting. Went to Whitby on Saturday, and had a bit of a vintage-sign-photographing-fest.

6. Well I was planning on doing Spanish for ages, and then I suddenly realised that I'm not really that bothered about Spanish history and culture whereas I think there's so much interesting stuff in Italian history and culture. Plus I wanted to do something similar to French that wouldn't be too difficult to learn!

It's weird, I've never had any desire to learn anything other than French (apart from GCSE German but that as just EVIL!) - I'd quite like to learn Welsh though, which I could do if I went to Cardiff uni... would be quite cool, je pense.

I still like Manchester, but the course is mostly Problem-Based Learning which I'm not sure would suit me as much as straight-forward lectures. Not sure though - I'm still coming to the open day (it's not till June though, AAAGES away!) so I'll have to see what happens then. :D

The PBL method looks fab to me...I've been hanging out with medics loads recently and it's totally the way I'd prefer to learn things if I was doing it. It just seems a lot more relevant to what you'll actually be doing when you qualify and much more interesting. :)

There's also a European Option, which means you could carry on your French!

Yeah I knoooww, and when I first looked at unis I LOVED Manchester because of the whole French thing, but then I thoght if I'm going to join the Air Force would I have time to take French as well as medicine as well as Air Force commitments? I don't knooowww!

The thing with me is, if I have to go away and find out something for myself (and I know you're in little groups with PBL but you're on your own some of the time) I can't actually learn it - I need someone to TELL me in order for me to be sure it's right, otherwise I worry forever if I've learnt the wrong thing.

Although I DO like the idea of the groups, as I'm sure it does help everything sink in much easier... I don't know! Now you've made me all uncertain again. *smites you*

Aww, well my flatmate Dan (yes, THAT Dan) has said that he'd be perfectly happy to send you his Semester 1 handbook and notes type things because he said that they explained the whole PBL thing really badly before he came. This is providing that he's passed his Semester 1 exams of course! I'm sure he'd also be happy to answer any questions you have or email you with some info...because he's lovely like that! ;)

The way I understand it is that you're given a new "case" every week (for instance this week they're looking at a whole scenario where a 19 year old student got stabbed) and then you have to go off and research the things they specify yourself...then the next lesson you discuss what you've found out in your group and the tutor says whether you've got it right or not.

Really? Aww that is so kind of him, I'll definitely take him up on the offer if he passes and is sure he doesn't need them. *wishes him good luck*

Now you've got me looking at the prospectus and getting all excited. Grrrr.

p.s: I got C's for my A-Level coursework and AS Oral in French...so I know how you feel! :(
None of it matters now though, which I know isn't a very helpful thing to say...but it's true.

Yeah I spose. And it was only one worksheet after all! Quite pathetic of me really to get so upset, but I am a complete perfectionist and can't help it!
