Lughnasadh - Circle Celebration

Aug 05, 2013 22:16

The day started drizzly and cold, but turned out warm, dry and sunny by the time we got up the hill. We had two new members, one who has done group ritual before and another who hasn't done anything. The latter simply observed our ritual.

We also had a few illnesses so numbers were short - I asked a long time member to step up and he did well. Interesting feedback was that he didn't appreciate how much there was to do and he didn't know how I did it. That was very illuminating as I don't think I've got any special skill to organise the whole thing, but maybe it is.

The ritual focused on the Descent of the Goddess through the myth of Tailtiu. The Goddess gives her life for the sake of the tribe and allows her body to spread onto the fields after she has ploughed them. The corn then grows and Lugh takes the first of the corn to make bread for the tribe. After the bread is shared, candles were lit for our own wishes and needs but unfortunately the blew out in the warm wind, so I burned them down later that night at home. We we meant to place them around the circle as part of our lustration of our circle using the "We all come from the Goddess" chant.

And that was it. Our new members did well, hopefully our new member who has not done any ritual got something out of it - they were certainly put on the path.

Lughnasadh blessings to everyone.
