I stand over a great abyss
On a narrow precipice
Only able to go forward or back
To go backwards means returning home
A place of comfort and warmth
A place of laughing children and smiling faces
A family that will protect me
Strengthen me though my darkest hour
Coddle me through my triumphs
Barricades me from my dreams
Smothering me in their love, affection and goodwill
Going back, is death.
But to go on
Means stepping away from all that I know
Stepping away from that blue security blanket
Striking out on my own
It means failing sometimes, falling others
Relying on myself to push me through the day
It means exploring who I am and defining who I want to be
It means stretching my wings and just breaking for it
Flying, running, jumping, leaping and...just going.
Going on is taking the next step over the abyss.
And so here I stand.
And maybe I have the courage to move on.
Yes. Maybe.
